Finishing Touches on a Neutral Dining Room

May 30, 2015 By stylishrevamp 1 Comment

I am just about done with the finishing touches on our Neutral Dining Room. Although, is any room ever really finished?  I still haven’t switched out the chandelier and I may add some more wall decor but for now, I am calling it finished (almost)!

Decorating In Neutrals Collage

I have shared bits and pieces of this room in the past but I was photographing around the fact that I still had the large red Persian rug under the table. I have looked everywhere for an area rug that would work in here but I needed a 10′ x 14′ and they are not cheap.  I really didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a rug because then I would feel obligated to keep it for a long time! I was also looking for something neutral.  I really like the jute rugs I found at Pier 1 but their largest was a 9′ x 12′ .My chairs would have been hanging off the edge of the carpet!  I am thinking about using the just rug from Pier 1 in the sunroom.

Changing Paint Colors from Warm Tones to Cool Tones

May 19, 2015 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

We are in the final stages of repainting the entire main level of our home as well as our basement.  The process started when we decided to redo our kitchen.  We knew that when we reworked the kitchen we would need to do the family room  because they are open to one another.  We also decided at that time to repaint the dining room as well.  Once that was done and we had time to sit with the new color choices for awhile, it was obvious (to me anyway) that we would need to repaint the foyer, formal living room and the sunroom.  We are slowly working from all warm tones to cool tones.

I live with four males and they do not pay attention to anything like warm and cool paint tones.  It was driving me crazy.  Our kitchen, family room, and dining room had cool shades of grey in varying tones.  Then off of those rooms, we had our foyer that was a warm beige and it just looked muddy to me.

So this is where it all began…the kitchen!

In our Kitchen we went from a yellow faux finish with green, gold and burgundy accents…

Kitchen with yellow, gold, green and maroon accents

to a grey and white kitchen.

White kitchen with grey accents

Even though the grey is a cool tone, I think the kitchen still feel warm and welcoming.

Once that was completed we did the living room.  It was the same yellow faux finish with the burgundy and green accents as well.

Changing Paint Colors from Warm Tones to Cool Tones

Once that was completed, we did the dining room.  I love, love, love the transformation in this room. We went from a deep red/maroon to a light beige/grey finish.

I will do a complete post on each room when I get everything completed.

The foyer was a warm beige that we repainted to a grey tone as well.

Thrifted Bowl and drawings in gold frames

I was a bit nervous when this color first went up on the wall.  It looked just like the kitchen and the family room.  Once I got everything back in place, I loved it.  Even though my husband says it is exactly the same as the other rooms, it isn’t and I love it!

If you look to the right of the photo, you can see into the formal living room which is being transformed into an office space. I think we will use it more once it is done.  Before, we used it as a pass thru into the sunroom.

This is the former formal living room that you got a glimpse of in the above picture.  It used to be painted a dark navy blue.  My husband loved the dark color but once we started lightening up the house, I think even he would agree, it has been a great change. Again, I will do a full post on each of these room once everything is completely finished.  Here’s where we are now…First, my husband built me these bookcases which I also showed you here.

(I cannot wait until we are completely finished with this room!  I am still looking for some furniture pieces!)

Then we had the walls painted a light beige.

Bookcase Prep work

You can see in the above photos how the walls were a dark navy.  I will post more on this later.

The last room we are painting on the main living level is our sunroom.  This is the most comfortable room in the house. I love this room, I even love the colors in it now but 1.) I am ready for a change and 2.) it doesn’t flow with the house any longer and 3.) I am tired of hearing the males in this household complain about the floral prints!

Sunroom before the revamp

This room is painted a warm yellow/gold color also in a faux finish.  I want to do a more neutral look.  I love this look from Liz Marie Blog.

I think this room is gorgeous.

Anyway, that is where we are at the moment…paint everywhere!

IKEA BILLY Bookcase Hack

May 6, 2015 By stylishrevamp 29 Comments

I am so excited to share our IKEA BILLY bookcase hack.  I fell in love with the bookcases The Makerista shared. They were gorgeous!  I showed it to my husband and he agreed that they would look great in my soon to be office (although, I am pretty sure he wasn’t even aware at the time that I was transforming the formal living room into my office.) It still cracks me up that we even have a formal living room, we have three boys and a dog, there is nothing formal about this family!  Anyway, back to the bookcases,  my guy pretty much followed the directions The Makerista shared in her post, making a few minor adjustments to fit our space.

IKEA BILLY Bookcase Hack 1

I absolutely LOVE these bookcases.  I am still adjusting the styling on the shelves, adding and taking away things everyday which is fun for me.  You will see I am back and forth with the mirror on the center shelf.  I am already thinking about how I will style it during the Christmas Season. Yes, I am that girl!

Check out the rolling library ladder.  I have always wanted one of these but didn’t realize how expensive they were.  I found this one on ebay and we got a great deal.   The stain on the ladder is perfect with our new flooring and like I said it was the best price I have seen on any rolling ladder.  Gman is enjoying it too!

There is really not one thing I would change about this bookcase.  Usually when we are done with a project, my husband will say, “I should have done this or I wish I would have done that” for me this is perfection.  He did such a great job.  He has really been a great sport about doing all these projects for me. As you know, it starts with one project that leads into the next and so on.

This is what we started with…I can’t believe it went from this…

Finding the Perfect Desk

April 28, 2015 By stylishrevamp 3 Comments

I have been stalking Pinterest for months looking for the perfect desk for my new office space.  At first, I wanted a white lacquered desk with chrome legs.  I was dreaming of a modern sleek style.  I love the Jonathan Adler Desk pictured here from Wayfair.

Channing+Writing+Desk

Then I started looking for a white desk with gold legs or gold accents.  I found this one at Pottery Barn Teen.

I really like both of these options but did not want to spend that kind of money. Then I started searching Ikea and found this IKEA  hack by Just Bella. I thought this was fabulous.  It was just what I was looking for and IKEA prices are the best.

I adore the sleek desktop and the gorgeous gold legs.  It was just what I wanted.  It would be perfect!  Then my husband asked, “Do we really need to buy another desk?” I was thinking no, we really don’t need to buy a new desk but oh how I wanted a sleek new desk. My husband suggested we use something we already own.  Perhaps, I could use one of the desks we have in the basement. The only two desks

we have in the basement are old, dark antique desks.  The complete opposite of what I had been dreaming about…white, lacquered, sleek, modern,  and with gold legs.

So this is the desk I am going to be revamping for my office.  The desk I have despised because it was so dark and depressing (using Gman’s words).

Wood Desk with Iron Details and wood Carvings

Yep, I know what you are thinking.  The same thing I was thinking… this is not sleek, white nor modern. This is not what I had in mind when I dreamed about my office but the more I looked at it, the more it started to grow on me, just a bit.

Antique Desk

O.K. so it was not my first choice but I think I can work with this.

ClawFoot Desk

I am really beginning to love the details that were hidden beneath the layers of dark stain.

Detail carvings on Desk

I started sanding and the details really began to pop.

Carved Details on the Desk

So, while it may not be the sleek modern desk I was dreaming of I think this desk has lots of character and I am excited to make it mine!

Until next time…

Remember when I told my husband if we revamped the kitchen we would have to redo the family room too?  Well, we did and it is finished. I feel like we are living in a brand new home now that the Family Room Revamp is complete. Now I am itching to get upstairs and start revamping it as well. My husband is probably still not ready for that conversation!

Designing a White Kitchen with Warmth

January 29, 2015 By stylishrevamp 19 Comments

Kitchen Details

We are settling into our newly revamped kitchen and I have to say that I just love it!  It turned out just the way I pictured it would in my mind.  I think we created a white kitchen that still has a lot of warmth. We still need to switch out the chandelier and add pendant lighting.  We will get to it at some point but at the moment  I am still looking and trying to find what I really want.  For now, I wanted to share our journey with you.

Welcome to our Christmas Home Tour 2014. I think I am finally ready.  All the boys are home, the house is decorated, the gifts are wrapped and the cookies are baked. This year we are going to be doing things a little differently.  We are heading to Italy after Santa has made his visit.

Painting Kitchen Cabinets White

December 6, 2014 By stylishrevamp 7 Comments

Finally, the kitchen is done! ( Minus a chandelier, pendant lighting and under cabinet lighting. One I think the electrician needs a break from me (sorry Carl) and two we haven’t found the exact pieces we want.) It really did not take that long from start to finish it just feels that way.  We started seriously thinking about redoing the kitchen in  late August early September and we finished the week of Thanksgiving.  The outcome was exactly what I was hoping for and more!

So check it out!

My Personal Cafe

September 7, 2014 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I am so ready for cooler weather to arrive. I just completed a small cafe table for my porch but it is just to hot to enjoy it.

I have been looking for a small table for the front/side porch but didn’t want to spend alot of money on it.  We have such a great spot but we really haven’t used it since we finished off our back screened in porch which was a long time ago.  The front porch just turned into wasted space.  So  I want to change that starting with this cafe table.

This little table didn’t look like this when I picked it up the the local antique/consignment. The chairs didn’t beong with the table but the are the perfect size and very heavy.

More Junkin Finds

August 19, 2014 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Summer is winding down so we squeezed in one more trip to the Island.  I just like being there because it is so peaceful and away from the grind of day to day living.  I am so not ready for the school year to begin because my oldest will head back to college, my middle son will start his senior year in high school and my youngest (also know as my tech guy and my photograper) will be in his last year of elementary school. When I am at the Island I do not have to think about any of that…

this is another reason that I love the Island…
