Easy Ways to add Simple Fall Touches

October 11, 2020 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Today I thought I would share some easy ways to add simple Fall touches to your home. Last year I went through my Fall decor and donated a lot of the things that I thought I would no longer use. When I pulled out my bins this year, I was kind of thinking I had made a mistake in getting rid of some of my decor. Things were looking a bit sparse at first but now I am enjoying the simple Fall touches and using items I have on hand with a few new additions.

It has been almost one year since my last post and it’s not like I have been too busy either. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March, I have pretty much been homebound. And I mean homebound. I started the shutdown full of nervous energy and completed a lot of mini projects that needed to be done. 4 months into the pandemic the energy started to fizzle. Now that Fall has arrived and we are entering into my favorite time of year, I am perking back up! I hope you enjoy my mini Fall Tour. Here we go!

Adding simple Fall touches

A few new items this year is the mini riser that the pumpkin is perched on and the stems with the mini pumpkins. I ordered these from The Nested Fig. I love this online store. I also follow Wesley on instagram @FarmShenanigans. Love, love, love his stories! I have learned so much from him and have gotten a lot of great inspiration from all the decorating tips he shares.

Fall Dining Room Decor

I also added my Dollar Store DIY pumpkins. You can see the DIY here. I have also been using these battery operated remote candles from Amazon and I am loving them. The last items I bought were two vintage tablecloths from ETSY.

Decorating with vintage tablecloths help create a curated look that I adore.

I purchased the tablecloths from PollyFrog on ETSY. I just added them to my vintage copper pots on my buffet, a simple and easy way to add Fall touches.

Decorating with Gourds
Decorating my Teak Ladder with Mini Pumpkins

I rounded out the Dining Room decor with a few gourds that I have had for years and I added a couple of mini jack o lanterns to my teak boat ladder that we picked up at a yard sale a few years back.

In the kitchen, I kept it simple with my sign that I made two years ago. I placed it above the cooktop. Notice the toilet paper pumpkin my youngest made in preschool 14 years ago. Don’t think for a minute that I didn’t think about dragging that out at the beginning of the pandemic when toilet paper was nowhere to be found!

DIY Fall Sign

In the living room, I added pops of orange with pillows and a throw that I had from previous years. I also used my favorite pumpkin that my older boys picked out over twenty years ago which I guess makes it vintage now.

Adding Simple Fall touches with pillows and throws.

Using my favorite light up pumpkin which is now considered vintage.
On the hearth, I filled a basket with a Fall pillow, a cozy throw, and a pumpkin.

One of the most used rooms in our home is the sunroom. I kept it very simple in here. I scattered a few pumpkins and that is it.

Adding pumpkins and greenery to a bowl adds a bit of Fall in the sunroom.
I placed a mini pumpkin by my wire vine to add a bit of whimsy.

I love this little table. It has been moved from room to room but I think this is my favorite spot. I picked it up at a thrift store a long time ago and it’s been painted about three different times. A cheap and easy refresh!

As for the outside, I kept it very simple with pumpkins, a few mums and ornamental pepper plants.

Decorating with a vintage stool, mums, and pumpkins.
A pumpkin stack and mums finish of the side porch.
Decorating my vintage plant stand with ornamental peppers and mini pumpkins.

I have shared this plant stand before. When I went home to visit my parents, I took my mama thrifting and I found this. It used to be on the porch of my mom’s neighbor when she was a child. I just like that it is now on my back deck, it’s a little piece of home.

That wraps up my little Fall home tour. Now that we are into my favorite time of year, hopefully, I will be posting a bit more. I hope you all enjoyed this little glimpse into my home.

Dressing Up my Pantry with a Vintage Door

July 14, 2019 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Where has this summer gone?  In less than a week, we are going to be seeing back to school ads and the bus stop schedule. I’m not ready!  It seems like only last week I shared my pantry organization.  It’s hard to believe that was back in January. Well, today I am sharing how I dressed up my newly organized pantry with a vintage door.  Not going to lie, I love it!

Back in January when I organized my pantry, I knew that I wanted a vintage half lite door.  Trying to find the right door was a bit more difficult than I expected. After months of looking, I finally found one in rough shape, a little too wide and about 4 inches too short.  Not to mention the smell!

Vintage half lite door

I absolutely love this door.  It was definitely a labor of love getting her to where she needed to be. It took a lot of stripping and sanding and painting but she was worth it, oh so worth it!

Vintage Pantry Door

I actually didn’t mind the stripping process.  Once I got the hang of it, I found it to be quite relaxing. I used orange CitriStrip that I had on hand.  I painted on a thick coat of the CitriStrip then covered it with plastic wrap and let it sit for 24 hours.  After 24 hours, I was able to scrape off the 4 different layers of paint. Then I flipped the door over and repeated the process.

before shot of my vintage door

My husband trimmed the door down an inch and a half on each side and we had to add four inches to the top.  We added to the top of the door so the bottom still lined up with the door trim.  We planed down a piece of wood to match the thickness of the door.  We drilled three holes in the 4 inch piece of wood and the top of the door.  We attached the extra piece of wood to the door with a dowel and wood glue.  Surprisingly, it was easier than I had anticipated and the fit is seamless.

Vintage Door with added height to fit existing door frame

I originally wanted to keep the door with the raw wood but I knew I wouldn’t be able to match the new wood to the old door. At this point, I was getting so excited to finish it off and had to pace myself on the painting.  I typically rush the painting process so I can finish a project but this time I left myself plenty of time to let the paint dry between the coats.

Vintage half lite door

I had to order a new door knob because the original knob and lock set was missing several pieces. Luckily, I was able to find an exact match here. I adore the ceramic knobs.

We have managed to keep the pantry organized since January and the glass now keeps me motivated to keep up the neatness! I love the finished look and now I’m on the hunt for a bubble glass door for my cleaning closet.

Vintage Pantry Door

I hope you all are enjoying your summer.  FYI, I am watching Christmas in July on Hallmark as I type this.  It is a true obsession and I do not use that word lightly!

To my dad, good luck tomorrow. I love you and will see you week after next! XOXOXO

Catching Up On Life in General

June 17, 2019 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

It’s hard to believe that 5 months have passed since my last post.  It is so true that the days are long but the years are short, oh so short.  So what’s been going on, a lot and then again nothing.  So let’s catch up, shall we?

Last Fall we decided to sell our Island Home.  As much as I loved that house, it was time to let it go to someone who was going to love it and use it.  Once the boys were older, we rarely used it and when I say rarely, I mean never! Well, I take that back, they would use it with their friends – minus us! It was a home that served it purpose during a time in our lives when the boys needed a place to grow, heal and be.

Whenever I would go there, I would fall in love with it all over again. The views were absolutely stunning but maintaining two homes gets kind of old after a while.  So I was happy to let that aspect go. We went to settlement on January 2nd.  So, on December 26th we rented a uhaul and cleared it out.  On the bright side, I was excited to bring home some of  my favorite things from the beach house and merge them into our home. Not going to lie, after settlement, I did feel a loss that I didn’t think I would. Although we didn’t use the house a lot, it was always nice to be able to pop over there when we wanted a quick getaway. My friends ask me if I think we will ever get another vacation home and I can honestly say no.  I absolutely loved that home but it was always on the back of my mind.  If there was a storm, I worried about damage, in the winter I worried about frozen pipes, in the summer if we weren’t there, I worried that the air condition would go out.

Can you see why I loved her though, just look!?

Tilghman Island

Tilghman Island

In other news, our youngest just completed his first year of High School.  It’s hard to believe in three short years, we will be empty nesters.  I can’t imagine what it will be like not having any of the boys home.  It’s hard for me to wrap my head around that one.

Some things don’t change though.  Although, I haven’t posted in some time, I have continued with my love of thrifting and vintage collecting.  I finally found a  vintage half lite door for my pantry.  She was a smelly, damaged, ripped from the door frame kinda gal but I loved her. She was definitely a labor of love. I will share the completed look early next week but here she is in “during” stage.

Vintage Pantry Door

Notice Charlie in the upper right hand corner.  He was so over this door.  He would rather be inside, sleeping comfortably on the couch.

Now that school is out and we are on no schedule, I want to share more of my finds and revamps in the coming  months. Well that is my plan as of now.

To my Dad, the one that instilled in me my love of tools and working on projects…I LOVE YOU! WE’VE GOT THIS!!!

I love you mom and dad

My Version of Tidying Up the Pantry

January 27, 2019 By stylishrevamp 11 Comments

I think everyone has hopped on the Marie Kondo bandwagon.  I watched one episode on Netflix and I have to say it stressed me out.  I can live with mess  for only so long before I lose it.  That was the case with our pantry.  I wanted to tackle it before Thanksgiving and time just got away from me.  I decided to wait on the revamp until after the Holidays and it drove me crazy looking at the mess every day.  It got to the point where we were buying things because we couldn’t find the ones we already had in the pantry.

Pantry before the Major overhaul

This is the hot mess we lived with in November and December. Chaos like this drives me crazy.  I am the type of person that has to have my house in order when I go to bed.  No dishes in or on the sink when I go to bed at night, pillows fluffed on the couch and throws folded and placed where they need to be.  It just helps me function better, especially when I start my day off with a clean kitchen.  So this mess was difficult to deal with to say the least.  After Thanksgiving, I knew I wouldn’t have time to complete it and I wanted to decorate and enjoy my Christmas home but this mess was always lurking in the back of my mind.

So, January was a fresh start.  Once the Holiday decor was boxed and put away, we emptied out the pantry and got to work. I have to admit, this was my least favorite project ever.  I felt like it was never-ending.  So much stuff to sort through and quite frankly it was just mind numbing.  I liked the actual revamping of the shelves and I didn’t mind painting the entire pantry but going through the food and organizing it was pure misery.

My version of tidying up the pantry

Pantry organization

I have to admit the outcome was so worth the two weeks of misery I went through getting this space organized. I’ll take you back through the process and show you what it looked like.

The pantry cleared out

This is what the panty looked like once we removed all the food.  I then got busy removing all the old contact paper that originally lined the shelves.  Once that was done, I scrubbed everything down with hot soapy water.

Then we made a trip to Home Depot.  We picked up some Lauan Plywood (it is the very thin plywood that everyone is making faux shiplap from and something I am trying to talk my husband into doing in our sunroom. I’ll keep you posted on that situation). We had them cut the plywood down to the right size in the store and my husband made the angled cuts once we were home.  We also bought some 1 x 2’s to trim out the shelves.

Shelves resurfaced with Lauan Plywood

Once that was done, we puttied the nail holes and sanded everything.  Then I got busy painting.  I painted the ceiling, shelves, walls and the trim a nice bright white.Painted and trimmed out Pantry Shelves

Resurfacing and trimming out the shelves made a huge improvement.  Finishing out everything with bright white paint brightened up the space a great deal. The earlier paint was an off white with yellowish undertones not to mention any touch ups done throughout the years was done in different paint. So not only was it disorganized but we had about 4 different color paints jobs going on in there.

Now the fun(ish) part, the organizing in pretty containers. I have collected glass jars from Goodwill for years. I also asked for pantry organization items for Christmas and I have shopped at Bed Bath and Beyond too.

Getting rid of most of the cardboard packaging in the pantry was the biggest space saver of all.  I never thought I would have enough plastic and glass containers to organize my pantry or that I would be able to fit everything back on the shelves but I did and I still have extra space.

Pantry Organization

Organizing the Pantry with Bed Bath and Beyond expandable a shelf

Adding the shelf risers for canned goods is a great space saver and it makes everything assessable and easy to see.  Placing together similar loose items in tray keeps everything organized as well.

Organizing Pantry with Baskets from Home Depot

I wanted to keep everything off of the floor.  Adding these wire basket from Home Depot was the perfect solution to keeping things off the floor and organized.  I will link everything at the end of the post. These baskets are a favorite! My brother-in-law made me this hand loomed rug and I adore it!

Organizing the Pantry with OXO Pop Tops

Some of the glass jars that I picked up at Goodwill throughout the years do not have an airtight seal.  For the containers that are not air tight, I use them for all my coffee and tea k cups or packaged food.  I also added two lazy susans in the corners.  I may still add one to each shelf.  We are also still think of adding another shelf up high for all of our paper products but for now, I think everything fits and we are fine as is.

Revamping our pantry

Here are a few of my take aways from this project followed by links to products in our pantry revamp.

  • remove items from cardboard packaging
  • place similar loose items together in a clear tray
  • add wire basket for potatoes and onions
  • use risers for canned goods
  • use lazy susan in corners for easy access

Links for items used in this post are below:

Oxo Pop Top Containers

Clear trays

Lazy Susan

Expand A Shelf

Hanging Wire Baskets  (i used the white shelves and mine came in a four pack)

Chalk Labels

I love how organized the pantry is and I don’t mind putting groceries away now.  Having said that, this project was a tough one for me but I am glad it is over and I am hoping it NEVER gets that messy again.  Thanks for joining me on this adventure. For any questions on this or any other post, I can be reached at krkolson@gmail.com or you can leave me a message in the comment section.

Holiday Home Tour

December 16, 2018 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Only nine more days until Christmas and I am finally posting  part of our Holiday Home Tour.  I really do not switch things up too much from year to year.  I like the traditions we have in place and the memories we have created but I do like to add a few new decor items whether they are DIY projects or new to me items.  Today I am sharing our dining room and my home office. With that said, sit back and enjoy our Holiday Home Tour. I am so happy you are here!

Home Office Holiday Home Tour

DIY 25 sign

The sign is a new addition this year. I was inspired by Heather Tartaglia from The Morning House.  I made this DIY just like all of my other signs that you can check out here and here. I like the view into the sunroom from my office.

Pencil tree with DIY Braided

I bought this pencil tree at Michaels a few years ago for a little over $30.  I flocked it last year with this product I bought on amazon.  I used the same flock on the DIY star topper that I made from twigs gathered from our yard. It was a quick and easy project that I will try to do a mini tutorial on later this week.  The braided garland is also another DIY project that was inspired by Erin@CottonStem.  The last new item in my office is the tree collar that I ordered from Home Depot. I really like this tree collar because it is adjustable, you can make it larger or smaller and it latches with a hook and chain.

Here's an up close view of the braided garland.

Here’s a close up of my DIY braided garland.  I picked up my chunky yarn at Michaels and used my 40% off coupon so it ended up being a little over 17$.  I love this new addition to the tree! Thanks Erin for the great idea!

Dining Room Christmas Holiday Tour

O.k.we are switching gears and heading into the dining room.   I added a few touches of Christmas sprinkled throughout the room. Here are a two of my favorites.

A view into my Office at Christmas time.

I use my bread bowl as a center piece by adding some greenery with red glass beads and some gold ornaments.  I like the glimpse of the Office Christmas tree you can see peaking around the corner.

Large vintage copper bowl with a vintage table cloth on the buffet table

This buffet is my absolute favorite piece of furniture in the entire house! I’m a bit obsessed with it to say the least.  I picked up the vintage table-cloth over the summer when I was home junking with my mama. I actually bought it in the vintage store that used to be our old apartment. You can read about that here.   I remember mom used to have one like this that she used for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinner. I like to think that this was actually hers.  I’m always on the lookout for vintage Christmas textiles. I guess it just reminds me of Christmas time from my past. I hope my boys will one day look back at our traditions and pass some of them on to their future families.

I hope you enjoyed this small little glimpse into our Holiday Home Tour.  I will be back tomorrow with a mini tour of our Kitchen and Family Room and end the last home tour on Tuesday with our Sitting Room Christmas decor.  Thanks for stopping by to visit us!

Cozy Christmas Home Tour

December 21, 2017 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Hi everyone! I am back to share another peek into our Christmas Home.  Other than the kitchen, the rooms I am sharing are where I spend most of my time.  Today, you will see our sunroom and our sitting room off of the master bedroom. The sitting room is the coziest room in the house. Even though it is small, I love having a Christmas tree in here.   So let’s get started in the sitting room.

Cozy Christmas Home Tour

My mantle dressed for Christmas using a vintage feeder and DIY letters.

I love the vintage feeder. I added some greenery and the red letters to add a pop of color.

DIY wood Christmas sign

DIY wood Christmas sign

I love this sign above the bed! You can see how I made it here and here.  The process is the same.

I didn’t get around to sharing the faux fireplace my husband built for our youngest but I wanted to show you how cute it is decked out for Christmas.  I will post the design and build in a separate post.

Faux fireplace in our son's room

(look at the wooden figure dabbing)

Cozy Christmas Home Tour

Next, I will show you the sunroom.  This is where we hang out the most but Santa leaves the gifts under the tree in the Family room which you can see here.

Flocked Christmas Tree from Walmart

I ordered this tree from Walmart.  It is heavily flocked and kind of sparse looking which I adore. I forgot to mention but the tree in the sitting room is also from Walmart.  Both of them were CHEAP!

Mini Christmas tree with a vintage table cloth for a tree skirt

A few years back my husband came home with a little table top tree and we have continued with that tradition.  I think it is so cute.  The tree skirt is actually a vintage table-cloth that I picked up in Florida several years ago.  It reminds me of one my mom used to have. I think decorating for Christmas brings back so many happy memories and that’s why I enjoy it so much.

You can see a glimpse into my office and the foyer in the picture above.  My goal for tomorrow is to do a final Christmas Tour which will include my office and the foyer.  I finished my baking again today since someone pretty much wiped out everything I have baked up until this point and I have already decided I am on a break from the gym until January so I should be able to do a final post.  I say should just in case I get sucked into the Hallmark Channel again.

Until Next Time,

Christmas Home Tour part 2

December 19, 2017 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Yes, this was supposed to go up on Sunday but I am truly obsessed with the Hallmark Channel at the moment.  I cannot get enough of it hence the late post and now the need to double up on the rest of my room tours.  So today will be both the kitchen and the dining room Christmas tours.  On a positive note, most of my wrapping is done as well as my baking!

O.k. let’s get started in the kitchen.  Most of my kitchen has remained the same with just a few new items to share.

My white kitchen decked out for Christmas with pops of red.

Christmas Tree with Tree Collar

The banner hanging in the window is new this year.  I picked it up at our local barn show.  It is reminiscent of a vintage banner that’s why I love it.

I love my husband's vintage red truck decked out for the holidays.

My husband’s red truck is an oldie but a favorite, especially with the wreath on the bumper and a Christmas tree in the back of the truck.

Goodwill finds and a little something vintage

This little ceramic camper is new for this years decor.  I picked it up at Goodwill last year after Christmas.  I adore this piece and it will always remind me of the sweet woman that bought it for me. I was strolling around Goodwill after Christmas last year and they had several pretty Santa mugs and these little campers.  So I was scooping them up and putting them in my cart and when the sweetest woman came up to me and we starting chatting about what I was going to do with them.  I told her I would keep a few for myself and the rest I would fill with candy,  it would make a great hostess or teacher gift. So she started loading her cart up and thanked me for the idea. When I went to pay, the kind woman had already paid for my purchases and had already left.

The Santa beside the camper is a vintage napkin holder that I have had for a while. I picked it up at our local antique shop.

Christmas Kitchen with Pops of Red

Christmas Home Tour

Ok, now onto the dining room.  We will have our Christmas Eve dinner in here as well as our Christmas Day Brunch.

A dining room dressed for Christmas.

I absolutely love all the pops of red this year in our Christmas decor.

A dough bowl filled with greenery and shiny gold Christmas ornaments for a simple centerpiece.

I will set the dining room table on the 23rd for our Christmas Eve dinner.  I will do an instagram story of the table once it’s complete. I picked up some new napkins on etsy that are super cute. I will probably use my vintage Christmas Ironstone for Brunch and my holly china on Christmas Eve.

Have yourself a Merry little Christmas DIY sign in the dining room.

I made this sign last year.  You can read about it here.

Tomorrow, if I don’t get sucked into the Hallmark Channel again, I will do a post on a few more rooms.  Hopefully, I will be caught up before Christmas Eve.  Thanks for stopping by…

Until Next Time,

What’s In Your Toolbox?

October 29, 2017 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I know Halloween hasn’t even arrived yet and I am already thinking about Christmas.  To me, it is never too early to be thinking of great gift ideas.   With the holidays approaching rather quickly, I thought it might be fun to share What’s in my Toolbox.  I love when my husband buys me new tools to add to my toolbox.  Last year for Christmas, he bought me a new portable workbench and some tools and I felt like the luckiest girl ever!

RenovatorsEssentials

What’s in your Toolbox?

I think I will start with my all time favorite tool,  a true renovators’ essential.

Ryobi AirStrike Brad Nailer

(Ryobi Cordless Brad Nailer)

Renovators’ Essentials

This tool has made so many projects around our home much easier and less time-consuming.  I like that it is cordless which takes the hassle out of maneuvering a cord around with you. We have used it to install our wainscoting, the IKEA Billy Bookcase, and my Ikea Pax Wardrobe.  I also used it to build my shelving in the bedroom as well as the shiplap above the fireplace. I could not possibly be more please with this tool.  When I am done, I pull the battery out and place it in the charger.

The next thing in my toolbox is my cordless drill.  I think everyone needs a good cordless drill, they are so much easier than using a set of screwdrivers which I used to do and it was exhausting!  Lately I have been collecting extra drill bits to add to my toolbox as well.

Rigid Rechargeable Drill with several different brand drill bits

In my toolbox,  you will also find the Ryobi cordless circular saw which uses the same battery as my Brad Nailer making it very convenient!  I use my circular saw when I need to make a quick cut on a piece of wood and I don’t want to pull out my table saw.  In a few weeks, I will share with you my new Christmas sign I made.  I used the circular saw to cut my wood down to the perfect size.

Ryobi Circular Saw

The last tool that I am sharing today would be my hand sander by….I have to say that sanding is one of my least favorite parts of any furniture revamp so having a good sander helps make this process easier and far less tedious!

Ryobi Electric Hand Sander

What’s in your Toolbox?

I shared only four of my favorite tools from my toolbox but there are so many other options for gift giving.  I like the idea of buying a toolbox and filling it with the essentials. I remember when I  moved out into my first apartment, my dad gave me a starter toolbox,  I loved that he did that for me. He filled it with a hammer, tape measure, screwdrivers, picture hanging supplies, nails and a few other essentials.  My husband did the same thing for our boys.  Today, there are so many great options from the little starter toolbox to the rolling stackable toolboxes.  Wayfair has a great selection of toolboxes to choose from if you are just beginning or want a major upgrade.  I am obsessing over the pink Steel Toolbox and the Hat Box Tool Box. So cute! Ok so these are just two of my favorites click here and check out the rest.

I hope I have given you a few ideas to kick of your Holiday shopping if you haven’t started already.  Don’t worry you still have 57 more days until Christmas!

Until Next Time,

Fixer Upper Style Master Bedroom Reveal

October 12, 2017 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I am so excited to finally reveal our newly updated Master Bedroom.  This has been months in the making!  I shared bits and pieces of the progress a few months back here and here but today I am sharing a quick video…my first ever!

One of our goals for 2017, which I shared here, was to add hardwood floors upstairs. Well, we finally did it.  The floors were installed in early September and last week the final paint touch ups were completed.  I am so happy we made the move from carpeting upstairs to wood floors.   I liked having the carpet when the boys were little and we didn’t have a puppy running around  but I absolutely love the wood floors!  Enjoy my first video and we will chat about the details after!

Fixer-Upper Style Master Bedroom Reveal

I am loving the transformation.  The hardwood floors make all the difference in the world!  We matched them with the downstairs  flooring which is a 5 inch hand scraped hickory. The hickory is a very warm tone which keep the wood from appearing too cold.

Master bedroom reveal and a fixer upper style shelf

Here’s a quick rundown of everything we did.

  • added hardwood
  • built a shelf using a 2×10 stained to match vintage chest at foot of the bed.  Shelf is attached using Simpson Strong Ties from Home Depot which I sprayed black
  • new gun-metal bed found at a local consignment shop
  • painted dresser, night stands, mirrors and lamps with Amy Howard One Step Paint
  • added an area rug from IKEA
  • hung wall sconces from Wayfair

I got the idea of the shelf above the bed from an episode of… you guessed it …The Fixer Upper.  It was the on season 4 episode 16.  As soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to do my version of it above our bed.  Such an easy projects with a big impact.  I did something similar in the sitting room.

Master Bedroom Reveal

Master bedroom reveal with Hardwood flooring and Fixer Upper Style

The area rug is from IKEA.  This is actually two area rug that I placed together.  I used the recommended rug pad from IKEA which feels a bit tacky/sticky and it keeps the two rugs together and stays in place.

Sitting Room with Fixer Upper Shiplap and new Hardwood flooring

I shared the sitting room before but I wanted you to see the difference the hard wood makes in here.  EEK, I LOVE IT! The chairs are the same ones I bought when I was pregnant with my first boys.  I had them reupholstered.  They are in fantastic shape and are super comfy.  I added the same IKEA rug in here to help keep the two room cohesive. I also added the ottoman from IKEA ektorp series. You can see a small stand on the fireplace hearth…a GoodWill find.  This is kind of  totally my space!

My slipcovered chairs and painted Amy Howard lamp

(reupholstered chairs with pillow and throw from TJ Maxx…and Charlie)

GoodWill credenza and DIY Shelving

I love this credenza I bought from Goodwill for $40.  I gave it a quick coat of paint and added my DIY shelves above it.  Almost everything on the shelves are treasures I found at Goodwill.

I hope you enjoyed my Master Bedroom Reveal and my first ever video.

Until Next Time,

Revamping my Closet with the IKEA Pax Wardrobe

October 1, 2017 By stylishrevamp 37 Comments

Yessss, I’m back! I took a little blogging break over the summer and enjoyed lazy days by the pool and some fun and adventurous travels as well. But now I am ready to share an exciting new makeover.  We had several big projects in the works and the first one I am going to share is my closet revamp using the IKEA Pax Wardrobe.  Yep another IKEA hack!

Buikt-In IKEA Pax Hack

Here it is…I love it.  I find myself just walking in the closet multiple times a day just to enjoy the sight of it.  I still cannot believe the transformation!

IKEA Pax Wardrobe

I love everything about it.  To me it is fabulous, organized and just gorgeous! Now that you’ve seen the beauty…here is the beast we started with.

The first thing we did was rip out the shelving unit and the shoe rack so the hardwood would go wall to wall (another post is coming soon about the new hardwoods) Then I began the process of clearing out the closet.  As much work as it was, I loved going through everything and getting rid of what I no longer wanted or needed. Well, I didn’t love it as I was doing it but it felt great to purge, especially when I was finished. I made several trips to GoodWill.

Closet makeover with IKEA Pax

Here’s a run down of what we did.  We went to IKEA to look at the Pax Wardrobe and get a feel for what we wanted to do.  I am not going to lie, it was a bit overwhelming.  We ended up going back the next day and worked with a sales representative that was able to design our layout on the computer with all the accessories. You can also do this on your own at home. Once we were satisfied with the overall layout and design, she printed off the entire packet which included a layout and all the pieces we needed to buy. That made it so much easier to pick up all the boxes we needed.  Here are a few pictures of the computer renderings of the new closet design.

O.K. I am going to be honest here.  This is about the point I fizzled out.  We had been under construction with the wood floors for about a week but leading up to that I had been clearing out all of our closets and linen closets to prep for the flooring and I was done! To make matters worse, I had given up sugar and I was basically zapped, finished and of very little help!  My hubs gets all the credit for the finished product! I didn’t leaving him completely hanging, I helped out a wee bit when needed!

He wanted to trim the wardrobes out with baseboard and decorative moulding between each wardrobe unit.  He used the same concept that he used on the IKEA Billy Bookcase which you can read about here.  I love the look of the wardrobes with the trim and moulding. It finishes the look off completely. Eek, I am so happy with my new closet!

There are so many options and accessories with the Pax Wardrobe. We chose both glass front and solid drawers, pants pull out hanger,  valet hanger, wire baskets, pull-out tray,  pull-out clothes rail, and a pull- out rack for scarves and belts.  I am absolutely thrilled with the outcome of this makeover and my hubs gets all the credit on this one!

In the next few days, I will post about the new floors and my bedroom makeover as well!

Until Next Time,
