Dining Room Redo

Today I am sharing our Dining Room Redo.  I think the easiest change with the most impact was just switching out the paint color!  Here’s a before shot. I always forget to take the before shots and at the last minute I get a quick shot with my phone but I think you can get an idea of how it looked.

Back in the day, we used a faux technique called Strié.  (I feel so old!) I like the texture it adds to the wall but I was just tired of the dark maroon color.  Under the chair rail, my husband sanded the Strié and added some trim/wainscoting.  We then painted it bright white by Sherwin Williams.

We left the Strié effect on the top and painted it Realist Beige by Sherwin Williams (SW6078). I cannot say enough how much just changing the paint color updated the space.  It is so much brighter in the Dining Room.  The floors were also replaced when we did the kitchen revamp which I showed you here.

I am loving all of my white dishes.  The buffet came out of our old home which sat in our basement for awhile. We finally brought it upstairs when I was rearranging furniture.

I also changed up the curtains.  I wanted a more casual look but wanted to use as much of the old hardware that I could to save some money.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t use the rods because they were too big in diameter.  I went to Home Depot and bought three dowels and had them cut down to 41 5/8 inches which they did for free.

I then used a 1 to 1 ratio of white paint and water and painted the dowels and the old finials.

Here are some final pictures of what we have done so far.  I hope you enjoy!

Once I switch out the area rug I will get a photo of the entire room.

[…] On my last trip to Goodwill, ( o.k. I admit it, I go to Goodwill about 3 times a week. This is how my mind works…I work out at a Pilates Studio then I treat myself to a Goodwill trip, sometimes I choose a vintage shop but right now I am obsessing over Goodwill and the new store right down the road has not even opened yet) anyway as I was saying, I found a few more white pieces to complete my shelves in the Dining Room that you can see  here.
