A Quick Follow Up on my Easy Driftwood Sign

October 17, 2016 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

A quick follow up on my easy Driftwood Sign

A few weeks ago I shared with you an easy DIY paint job on my house sign which you can read about here.  Today I wanted to share with you a quick follow up on that driftwood sign.  My oldest was home over the weekend and we made a quick trip to the Island and he hung my sign up for me!

This is our Island Home with the driftwood sign above the garage door.

Can you see the sign above the garage door? I didn’t realize how much I missed it above the door until we put it back on Saturday. It finishes off the look!  Notice that nice car in the driveway…Yep, not mine or anyone in my family for that matter.  Looks nice in front of the house though!

A Quick Follow Up on My Easy Driftwood Sign

Here’s a closer look at the sign.

Remember this is what it looked like before I repainted it.

I will let you know how long it holds up to the weather!

Here’s one final look at one of the most peaceful places…ever!  Can you see why I love this place?

How to Paint a Driftwood Sign the Easy Way

October 4, 2016 By stylishrevamp 1 Comment

How to Paint a Driftwood Sign the Easy Way

When we bought our home on the Island, it already had a name or at least a little driftwood sign above the door letting people know that We Got The Point and that’s how people usually know where we are located on the Island. The previous owners named the home and everyone wanted us to leave the sign so several years later We still Got the Point. Our home is on a point of land that juts out to the water which is how the previous owners came up with the sign…so we are just going to go with it.

Since our home is out on the point, it gets  a lot of wind and we get damage from the salt water.  The driftwood Point sign was in need of a little revamp. I was a bit worried about painting it since I do not have the steadiest of hands when it comes to small detail work but I found a little something that made it super easy!

How to Paint a Driftwood Sign the Easy Way

I made a trip to Home Depot (for something totally unrelated to this project) and I always stop by the paint section.  That is where I found this…

Sharpie Oil Based Paint Pen

The Sharpie Paint Pen was super easy to use.  I used it just as I would an actual Sharpie marker.  I was worried that it might run or drip but it really worked no differently than a regular marker.

First, I painted the entire sign with white paint that I had on hand and let it dry completely. Once that was done, I traced the letters with the Sharpie Paint Pen. This helps create a border that I can work within.

The original lettering was grey but I chose to go with black.  Sadly, I have not been back to the Island Home to install it but you can see it finished now and later I will share it once I hang it back on the house.

Yep, I love it!  Even if I did not choose to label our home with this slogan!

I already have in mind the sign I want to make for Christmas with the Sharpie Paint Pen!

Repurposing Driftwood into a Charming DIY Whale

June 6, 2014 By stylishrevamp 1 Comment

Repurposing driftwood into a charming whale.

Every time we go to the Island Home we collect pieces of driftwood  and I have been holding on to this piece since last summer. I have been seeing driftwood/reclaimed wood whales online that I love so I decided to make one of my own.

DIY Driftwood Whale

I had my husband draw the outline for me and I used a jigsaw to cut it out. It was my first time using the jigsaw and it wasn’t as easy as it looks on t.v. I think I tried to cut it too quickly.  I had my husband touch up the misguided cuts then he used a grinder to smooth out the edges.

Driftwood Christmas Tree

November 14, 2013 By stylishrevamp 7 Comments

Design your own DIY Driftwood Christmas Tree/ Easy step by step process with materials list.

I love this time of year.  The weather is finally turning cold and I love getting ready for the Holidays.  I enjoy everything about it. Although, I think my favorite part is decorating the house and I have had this project on my mind since last year…

While I was out shopping with some friends, I saw a Driftwood Christmas Tree but it was $65.00.  I knew I could make my own version of it for a lot less.  Since then I have seen them in the Restoration Hardware Catalog ($79.00-$179.00) and The Home Decorators Collection Catalog ($63.00).  So here is my version of the Driftwood Christmas Tree.

My Supply List Includes:

Cardboard Cone Shape (I got mine from Michaels)

Driftwood

Hot glue Gun and Glue Sticks

Artificial Spray Snow

Driftwood Christmas Tree

It was pretty much the same process as the Driftwood Wreath which you can find here.  Some of the trees I saw, the driftwood was placed horizontally around the tree. For my first tree, I thought placing the driftwood vertically would be easier.  So I found similair size pieces and glued them around the base like this…

DIY Driftwood Christmas Tree

I continued adding pieces all the way around the base overlapping them as I moved up the tree.   I had to break  some of the driftwood into  smaller pieces just to get the right size.  It’s very easy to do and I like how each tree has it’s own character. This is what the tree looked like before I added the spray snow.

This is a picture of it with the  spray snow.  I am not sure which one I like the best… with or with out the snow?

This was such an easy and inexpensive project that anyone can do.

How to Make A DIY Driftwood Wreath

July 23, 2013 By stylishrevamp 10 Comments

A few days ago I finally decided to use the driftwood that the boys and I have been collecting from the rip rap at our Island Home.   I got the idea from The Wood Grain Cottage which you can find here.  I absolutely love the idea of a driftwood wreath so today I am going to share with you how to make a DIY Driftwood wreath of your own.

How to Make a DIY Driftwood Wreath/A simple guide to making a driftwood wreath

My supply list includes:

Foam wreath form

Burlap

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Driftwood (twigs from your yard if you do not have access to driftwood)

My Supply list for a Driftwood Wreath.

How to Make a DIY Driftwood Wreath

First, I wrapped the foam wreath form in burlap an attached it with hot glue. This was super simple.

The 1st step in making a driftwood wreath, wrap your foam wreath form in burlap.

Once the form was completely cover with the burlap I started adding pieces of the driftwood

2nd step in making a DIY driftwood wreath, adhere pieces of driftwood to the burlap covered foam wreath form. Add pieces in an off set pattern around the wreath.

…and more driftwood

Continue adding driftwood until the entire wreath form is covered.

Until I came up with this:

Completed driftwood wreath

Let it completely dry before hanging.  This was a super easy project although a bit messy.  I am thrilled with how it turned out.  Thanks Shayna from The Wood Grain Cottage for this great idea.

I took the finished wreath down to the Island Home where we found all of the driftwood to begin with and added it to my kitchen.  I have to say that it fits in perfectly. What do you think?

China Cabinet

July 23, 2013 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

photo-4 copy 23

This is an old china cabinet that my husband had even before my time. Anyway, years ago I painted it black and I liked it at the time but when we decided to take it to the Island Home I wanted everything to have a light and airy feeling.  So I decided to try the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint that everyone is talking about. I used Old White and I think the cabinet looks so much better. I still need more practice with the chalk paint. I am just used to spray paint.

The pictures are not great but check out the drift wood on top of the cabinet.  FREE! I am not completely done styling this part of the room but for now I am o.k. with it.
