Decorating with Lighting and Ladders

September 22, 2015 By stylishrevamp 2 Comments

I have been working with this ladder on and off all summer.  First I was going to use it as a rack for my blankets, then I was going to take it to the Island Home, but I have changed my mind…again. I decided to decorate my ladder with lighting just because I like the way it looks!

Ladders and Lighting

I had seen this image and fell in love with the hanging light but for my ladder I wanted a light with more of a vintage feel to it. At this point, I knew I was not going to be using my ladder for my blankets.

My ladder is actually a teak boat ladder so it is much shorter than other ladders I have seen.  I knew if I wanted to hang a light from it, I would need to hang the ladder up instead of just propping it against the wall.  Would I have preferred to just prop it up against the wall? Yes, but it looked too short and by the time I would drape my light  it would be hanging way too low and the one thing I knew I definitely wanted to do was hang a vintage looking light from it!

Before I even found the light I wanted, I had to figure out how to hang the ladder.  The ladder had hooks on the handles so I was trying to find a rod to hang it from and a way to attach it to the wall. I originally wanted to use a curtain rod but they were too large in diameter to hook the ladder over.  I found a steel rod at Home Depot that they cut down for me, two plastic end caps that I sprayed silver and to eye hooks that I screwed into the wall studs. The gentleman at Home Depot was trying to figure out what I was doing and I could tell my explanation was confusing him.  He was super helpful and I promised him I would show him a picture of the finished project.  Sometimes, it is hard to explain what you see in your mind and how you are going to actually make it happen.

Decorating with HangOut Lighting and Ladder

Once I got my ladder hung securely to the wall, I began searching for the light I wanted.  I order mine through Etsy from a shop called HangOut Lighting.  As soon as I saw all of their custom lighting, I fell in love…gorgeous, one of a kind pieces.  I chose a simple vintage like black fabric plug-in cord, black socket, and an Edison bulb. It was exactly what I was picturing in my head and when it arrived, it was perfect!

Sometimes, the easiest projects take the longest time.  I was all over the place with this one but I adore this outcome!

Finding the Goods

September 2, 2015 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

It has been so hard for me to get back into the swing of things with the start of school.  My oldest headed back to college which was hard for me.  Having my youngest running after his car as he drove away didn’t help matters either according to my oldest! My middle guy is at our local college which is great for all of us and the Gman started Middle School.

So it is not surprising that I would rather be here…

Revamping a Vintage Wash Stand

August 16, 2015 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I recently completed my home office which you can see here.  I have been using the office for a few months now and I really love this space.  I find myself adding small little touches here and there, and most recently I added a new/old piece for a spot behind my desk.  I think the revamped wash stand fits into my office perfectly.

GoodwillGoods

On my last trip to Goodwill, ( o.k. I admit it, I go to Goodwill about 3 times a week. This is how my mind works…I work out at a Pilates Studio then I treat myself to a Goodwill trip, sometimes I choose a vintage shop but right now I am obsessing over Goodwill and the new store right down the road has not even opened yet) anyway as I was saying, I found a few more white pieces to complete my shelves in the Dining Room that you can see  here.

I really like the look of the white dishes on the shelving in both my kitchen and dining room.  I found this ironstone platter (I really don’t know much about ironstone but I like my platter and I LOVE the Goodwill price.)

White on White in the Kitchen

I have been working on styling my glass front cabinets in the kitchen.  I love the look of white on white.  Eventually, I would like to switch out all of my dishes and platters to white.  Mixing all the different pieces looks cohesive but adds a different touch.

I have been collecting white dishes and white ironstone…basically, any type of white pottery that I find unique.  I found some great pieces at Goodwill.  I also found a few pieces at the local thrift/consignment shop.  Another thing that I am really into lately is vintage cutting boards.  I like the look of the white with the wood tones in the backgound. We saw some really nice cutting boards in Italy over the Chistmas Holiday which just fueled my desire even more.

My Personal Cafe

September 7, 2014 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I am so ready for cooler weather to arrive. I just completed a small cafe table for my porch but it is just to hot to enjoy it.

I have been looking for a small table for the front/side porch but didn’t want to spend alot of money on it.  We have such a great spot but we really haven’t used it since we finished off our back screened in porch which was a long time ago.  The front porch just turned into wasted space.  So  I want to change that starting with this cafe table.

This little table didn’t look like this when I picked it up the the local antique/consignment. The chairs didn’t beong with the table but the are the perfect size and very heavy.

More Junkin Finds

August 19, 2014 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Summer is winding down so we squeezed in one more trip to the Island.  I just like being there because it is so peaceful and away from the grind of day to day living.  I am so not ready for the school year to begin because my oldest will head back to college, my middle son will start his senior year in high school and my youngest (also know as my tech guy and my photograper) will be in his last year of elementary school. When I am at the Island I do not have to think about any of that…

this is another reason that I love the Island…

Junkin

August 6, 2014 By stylishrevamp 1 Comment

My husband just bought a 1996 f150 and I love it! It is the perfect truck for junkin.  I even got my husband to go with me on several trips.

I found these boat cleats on our first outting.

Boat Cleats Used For Decorative Hooks

I know they will clean up nicely but I think I am going to leave them alone.  I like the patina on them and they will only be used to hang up beach towels at the Island Home.  For $1 they are perfect!

Goodwill Credenza (part 2)

May 19, 2014 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

(The saga continues…)

How to Revamp Goodwill Finds into Family Treasures

I finished my Goodwill Credenza a couple of weeks ago and it is still sitting in my garage.  I am not ready to move it into the sunroom quite yet.

I really like how it turned out. I do not have any decent photos of the piece but once I move it inside I will post updated photos.

Vintage Goodwill Credenza

Once we got it sanded down, I used a mahogany stain on the top.  I did three coats and lightly sanded between each coat.  On the base of the

credenza I used chalk paint.  I mixed up my own chalk paint and I have to say that I loved it.  It went on so smooth and was much cheaper to

make my own and

the paint colors are now unlimited!
