Today, I am finally sharing my brand new Home Office. We have been working on this office for quite some time. It all started with the Billy Bookcase. I always say this when we finish a room but this is now one of my favorite rooms!
Thrift Shop Thursday #11
Welcome to Thrift Shop Thursday #11. This week it’s all about silver. I think Goodwill always has a great selection of silver if you can see past all the tarnish. Usually their prices are pretty reasonable. Having said that, they do have some pieces marked a bit high for me but for the most part it’s a great place to pick up some good silver. Sometimes you just have to look past the ugly.
Thrift Shop Thursday #10
Welcome to Thrift Shop Thursday #10. This has been a busy week. My middle son graduated from High School.
This guy has overcome so much and we are so proud of him. BK, we look forward to seeing you conquer this next chapter in your life. We love you! Also, Mam and Pap, we are so happy you came to celebrate with us!
Now, on to Thrift Shop Thursday #10.
Finishing Touches on a Neutral Dining Room
I am just about done with the finishing touches on our Neutral Dining Room. Although, is any room ever really finished? I still haven’t switched out the chandelier and I may add some more wall decor but for now, I am calling it finished (almost)!
I have shared bits and pieces of this room in the past but I was photographing around the fact that I still had the large red Persian rug under the table. I have looked everywhere for an area rug that would work in here but I needed a 10′ x 14′ and they are not cheap. I really didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a rug because then I would feel obligated to keep it for a long time! I was also looking for something neutral. I really like the jute rugs I found at Pier 1 but their largest was a 9′ x 12′ .My chairs would have been hanging off the edge of the carpet! I am thinking about using the just rug from Pier 1 in the sunroom.
Thrift Shop Thursday #9
We are back this week with new/old Thrift Shop Finds. Yesterday when I showed my hubs the new find I picked up, he said he was worried that I was becoming a hoarder. At first I got a bit antsy, thinking he might be right but nah I still have a few more rooms to fill. O.k. in all seriousness, I try to make sure for each thing that comes in I donate more than twice that amount. When we had hardwood floors laid throughout the main level of the house in the fall, I did a full on deep clean. So, no hoarding going on here. Well, maybe the garage area a bit!
Anyway, onto Thrift Shop Thursday #9.
The first piece I am sharing today was orginally a vintage crate at some point.
We found it at an antique shop in Pennsylvania many years ago. This was when my husband and I were dating and I believed him when he said he enjoyed junking. Actually, he is a good sport and will go on the hunt with me occasionally.
The next treasure is a Goodwill Find.
I don’t know, there was just something about these candlesticks that I liked. I think it was the blonde wood with the bronze and gold finish on the metal base. Either way for a few bucks I thought why not? I seem to go in phases lately when thrift shopping. I find one thing and buy several in different variations. First I was into the white dishes, then the gold phase (which I am still kind of searching for and need to stop) and now I seem to be into the candlesticks. I am also into the smaller items or household accessories. I like to switch things up a bit at the house.
Next up is a set of concrete planters that I love.
I gave the planters a coat of white paint and that was it. Simple, easy five minute job!
Thrift Shop Thursday #9
Last up this week is surprise, surprise something gold.
Look, it’s gold and it’s a candle holder. Yep, I told you I shop in phases!
Well that’s it for this weeks Thrift Shop Thursday #9. I hope you enjoyed it!
Until Next Time…

Throwback to my Favorite Thrift Shop Thursday Finds
Today is a throwback to my Favorite Thrift Shop Thursday Finds.
The first item I am sharing again is my gold/brass deer. I love this little piece. I picked it up at the new Goodwill. So far this is about the only thing that I have found there.
This is a perfect accent piece to my bookcases.
Up next, I am sharing my favorite wooden 3 tier tray that I picked up at HomeGoods. I have decorated the stand with all of my GoodWill white dishes.
Last week I shared my white chippy frames that we picked up at a yard sale. I really like how they look on my mantle leaned up against the large mirror. It completely changes the look of the fireplace.
Changing Paint Colors from Warm Tones to Cool Tones
We are in the final stages of repainting the entire main level of our home as well as our basement. The process started when we decided to redo our kitchen. We knew that when we reworked the kitchen we would need to do the family room because they are open to one another. We also decided at that time to repaint the dining room as well. Once that was done and we had time to sit with the new color choices for awhile, it was obvious (to me anyway) that we would need to repaint the foyer, formal living room and the sunroom. We are slowly working from all warm tones to cool tones.
I live with four males and they do not pay attention to anything like warm and cool paint tones. It was driving me crazy. Our kitchen, family room, and dining room had cool shades of grey in varying tones. Then off of those rooms, we had our foyer that was a warm beige and it just looked muddy to me.
So this is where it all began…the kitchen!
In our Kitchen we went from a yellow faux finish with green, gold and burgundy accents…
to a grey and white kitchen.
Even though the grey is a cool tone, I think the kitchen still feel warm and welcoming.
Once that was completed we did the living room. It was the same yellow faux finish with the burgundy and green accents as well.
Changing Paint Colors from Warm Tones to Cool Tones
Once that was completed, we did the dining room. I love, love, love the transformation in this room. We went from a deep red/maroon to a light beige/grey finish.
(before)
I will do a complete post on each room when I get everything completed.
The foyer was a warm beige that we repainted to a grey tone as well.
I was a bit nervous when this color first went up on the wall. It looked just like the kitchen and the family room. Once I got everything back in place, I loved it. Even though my husband says it is exactly the same as the other rooms, it isn’t and I love it!
If you look to the right of the photo, you can see into the formal living room which is being transformed into an office space. I think we will use it more once it is done. Before, we used it as a pass thru into the sunroom.
This is the former formal living room that you got a glimpse of in the above picture. It used to be painted a dark navy blue. My husband loved the dark color but once we started lightening up the house, I think even he would agree, it has been a great change. Again, I will do a full post on each of these room once everything is completely finished. Here’s where we are now…First, my husband built me these bookcases which I also showed you here.
(I cannot wait until we are completely finished with this room! I am still looking for some furniture pieces!)
Then we had the walls painted a light beige.
You can see in the above photos how the walls were a dark navy. I will post more on this later.
The last room we are painting on the main living level is our sunroom. This is the most comfortable room in the house. I love this room, I even love the colors in it now but 1.) I am ready for a change and 2.) it doesn’t flow with the house any longer and 3.) I am tired of hearing the males in this household complain about the floral prints!
This room is painted a warm yellow/gold color also in a faux finish. I want to do a more neutral look. I love this look from Liz Marie Blog.
I think this room is gorgeous.
Anyway, that is where we are at the moment…paint everywhere!
My Paint Colors:
Kitchen- Grayish by Sherwin Williams SW6001
Family Room- Proper Gray by Sherwin Williams SW6003
Dining Room- Realist Beige by Sherwin Williams SW 6078
Foyer- North Island by McCormick Paints 0552
Formal Living Room/Office- Santo by McCormick Paints 0538
Sunroom- Cool Platinum by McCormick Paints 005
As I finish off each room I will do an updated post.
Until then…

Thrift Shop Thursday #8
I almost did not have time to fit this weeks Thrift Shop Thursday in today. My middle guy was in an accident, thankfully he is fine, just a bit bit bruised and scraped. Mostly, he is just devastated about his 1996 F150. He’s a bit like me with the old and vintage pieces! My oldest is home from college which adds on another entire level of chaos. As for me, my hubs, and the Gman, we are trying to fit in some more exercise. I will be the first to admit, it is getting the best of me!
Alright, enough about us, on to Thrift Shop Thursday #8.
Up first, I am sharing the bowl on our foyer table.
We found this pedestal bowl at a small consignment shop near our home. I like the leaf details that make up the bowl. It’s just a sweet little piece that adds something different to the hall table.
The drawings above the hall table are also part of Thrift Shop Thursday #8.
Thrift Shop Thursday #7
Yes, it’s that time again…Thrift Shop Thursday. We are up to #7. This morning my husband asked, “Don’t you need to go Thrift Shopping, it’s Thursday?” Well, I wasn’t planning on it but, hey, he kind of sounded like he wanted me to go shopping and if it makes him happy, I am all for it!
So let’s get this started.
Thrift Shop Thursday #7
First up this Thursday is my brass candle snuffer.
I picked this up at Goodwill (of course) a couple of weeks ago. I have to say I couldn’t wait for the new Goodwill to open but I think I like the old one better. They seem to move the merchandise in and out more rapidly. There is always something new and strange coming in to the store.
Yes, I am still on the gold/brass kick. I think all my little accessories look great on our newly finished IKEA Bookcase that I shared here.
Up next…
the vintage binoculars I picked up at a shop called Twisted Sister. I orginally bought these for my husband to use down at the Island House but I think they look perfect right here at home. They do look good on the bookcase but we really just never remember to take them when we head to the Eastern Shore. We only remember them when we are looking out at the water and need them!
Next up is an oldie but a goodie! It’s a vintage brass personal ashtray. Many, many years ago I was loving the gold/brass look. See, if you hold on to your junk long enough it will come back into favor again! I have a couple different personal ashtrays around that I like and have had for awhile.
Last up this week is a lamp I found at a consignment shop.
Before we revamped our kitchen this lamp had a burgundy and gold lamp shade that I am now using in our sunroom (for the time being, we are getting ready to revamp that room as well.) I wanted to keep the base and I had some shades that I bought at the same consignment shop years ago. I liked the shape of the lampshade but not the pleated material that was on it. I just cut the outer pleat off and left the inner material intact. I used the same material that I used to recover the bench in the kitchen that you can see here.
Well, that finishes another week of Thrift Shop Thursday. It is hard to believe we are on #7. I am looking forward to school coming to an end this year. I am ready to get down to the Eastern Shore so I can go thrift shopping at some different shops!
I hope you are having a good week and scoring lots of great finds.
Until next time…
We party here:
IKEA BILLY Bookcase Hack
I am so excited to share our IKEA BILLY bookcase hack. I fell in love with the bookcases The Makerista shared. They were gorgeous! I showed it to my husband and he agreed that they would look great in my soon to be office (although, I am pretty sure he wasn’t even aware at the time that I was transforming the formal living room into my office.) It still cracks me up that we even have a formal living room, we have three boys and a dog, there is nothing formal about this family! Anyway, back to the bookcases, my guy pretty much followed the directions The Makerista shared in her post, making a few minor adjustments to fit our space.
I absolutely LOVE these bookcases. I am still adjusting the styling on the shelves, adding and taking away things everyday which is fun for me. You will see I am back and forth with the mirror on the center shelf. I am already thinking about how I will style it during the Christmas Season. Yes, I am that girl!
Check out the rolling library ladder. I have always wanted one of these but didn’t realize how expensive they were. I found this one on ebay and we got a great deal. The stain on the ladder is perfect with our new flooring and like I said it was the best price I have seen on any rolling ladder. Gman is enjoying it too!
There is really not one thing I would change about this bookcase. Usually when we are done with a project, my husband will say, “I should have done this or I wish I would have done that” for me this is perfection. He did such a great job. He has really been a great sport about doing all these projects for me. As you know, it starts with one project that leads into the next and so on.
This is what we started with…I can’t believe it went from this…
to this…
To see our inspiration for this project, please check out The Makerista. She has some fabulous ideas.
Until next time,
