Easy DIY Fairy Garden

August 8, 2016 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Happy Monday! Just a few more Mondays left then it will be back to school for my guys…dread, dread, dreading it!  Although, I am ready for cooler weather, I am not ready for the grind of the school year.  I know a lot of you like the routine of school but I like the easy breezy relaxed feeling of summer…call me lazy!

Over the weekend, we had a few special visitors.  We were thinking of things to do while they were here and I thought it would be fun to make a Fairy Garden with a charming 2 1/2  almost 3-year-old little girl! I have been wanting to do this for a while and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do it and a chance to make some lasting memories!

How to Design an Easy DIY Garden/ Quick and easy project that is super simple and so adorable.

Today we are sharing how to make a Fairy Garden using a copper tub, a few supplies from Michael's Craft Store and and old tree log.

I picked up all the small accessories from Michaels and the plants from a local nursery.  When I first began thinking about making a Fairy Garden, I saw all these great ideas on Facebook and Pinterest. The options really are limitless.  We chose to use an old copper tub that we have had forever and instead of purchasing a Fairy House we chose to use an old log we had from cutting down a pine tree. Originally, we or should I say I had all these grand plans of how I wanted to cut the log and make a pitched roof…then I remember a 2 1/2 year old does not have the attention span to deal with all the planning and then the cutting that it would take to achieve the look I had in my head.  In the end, we went with her design and it turned out fabulous.  Basically, we place the log exactly where she wanted it and then she pointed to where she wanted each plant to be placed.  She placed all of the accessories like the bike, the water fountain, table and chairs, mushrooms, bench and gazing ball! We may have a landscape architect in the making.

It really is a sweet little design.  I have the copper tub at the base of our screened in porch out back leading to the pool.

Adding Charm to an Outdoor Space

This was such a sweet and fun little project.  It also adds a bit of charm to your outdoor space. I hope you enjoyed our little version of the Fairy Garden.

2016 Outdoor Home Tour

June 25, 2016 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I thought since we have had some great weather recently, I would share a quick outdoor tour of our home.  The Spring weather earlier this year has really helped my yard and plants. I will admit outdoor work is not really my thing but I have gotten into it a bit more this year.

Outdoor Home Tour 2016

I think my favorite part of our yard is all the little pathways.

Landscaping the pool area

This one is a bit more difficult to see, but it is a flagstone walkway meandering through the pool area to the side of the house.  This is my favorite spot. I like that the path is surrounded by a stacked stone wall, Vinca, skip laurels, Japanese Maple Tree, and the yellow climbing roses.

Back Patio Area

Our back patio is enclosed with a stone wall and  has a step down area with an outdoor fireplace. It feels like an outdoor room. This photo is not recent but I love how the fireplace looks all decorated. At the moment, I have a crew outside replacing some damaged wood pieces on our deck and trim.  I will share an updated photo in a later post.

Decorating and outdoor fireplace with fresh clipping in a planter and a fresh cut wreath.

I remember many years ago my parents were here and we built a big fire in the fireplace. My mom was a bit panicked but laughing so hard because I built that big fire using junk that my husband had in the garage that should have been trashed many years beforehand. (Mainly it was scrap wood and boxes.)  Anyway, he never missed any of that stuff I cleaned out of the garage.  It will be interesting to see if he reads this post! Yikes!

My potted herb garden, it’s small but it works for me.

Concrete pots on the front porch

This is one of my concrete pots that I shared here on  Thrift Shop Thursday. I have two of them and they flank the front entrance on our porch.  I bought the plants at Kmart. $11 that’s it and they are doing great.  I saw the same thing at a local nursery for $36.

Landscaping around the pool and pergola

Our pergola..my husband came up with this idea.  Did we need it? No, but we love it! Even though it is completely open, it feels like a room out by the pool.  The plants are finally starting to fill in nicely.  Love, Love, love it!

Yellow Climbing Roses on the pergola

Our yellow roses are finally starting to make their way up the pergola and down the fence line.  I am really liking the pops of yellow in our yard.

I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into our outdoor living space.  It is always a work in progress but I finally feel like it is coming together.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of my WV readers, be safe!
