Easy DIY Headboard

January 12, 2014 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Previously, I showed you our Board and Batten Headboard for the Island Home that you can see here.  Yesterday, my middle son and I made the trek to the Island home to make another headboard.  We wanted to do something similar but with fewer steps.  It was such a spur of the moment kind of trip and I wasn’t even sure if I was  in the mood to start the project.  It was pouring down rain, the wind was blowing and it was so foggy.

Our first stop was Home Depot.  We decided to frame out the headboard and skip the middle slats like we did in the Board and Batten Headboard.  Therefore,  we only needed four pieces of wood.

Supplies:

two 1×4’s cut to 5 feet

one 1×4 cut to 76 inches

one 1×2 cut to 76 inches

nail gun

painters tape

wood filler

sanding block

valspar white paint

First, we nailed each five foot 1 x 4 in place. Then we added the 76 inch 1 x4 on top.  Easy!!

We added the 1 x 2 on the top to form a ledge.  Once we finished nailing the pieces into place, we used wood filler to patch the holes.  After it dried, we sanded the filler with the sanding blocks for a smooth finish.  We used the Valspar paint that we had left over from a previous project.

This is what the room looked like before we made the headboard.  It was such an easy project and it made such an impact on the room

Even though I was not in the mood  to go to the Island, I am so glad that we did.  I just love, love, love it there… even in the rain, wind and fog!!

Thanks B.K.

DIY Headboard

September 8, 2013 By stylishrevamp 3 Comments

Another quick trip to the Island this weekend and we had some fabulous weather. I love it when it is not too hot and there is a nice breeze coming off the Bay!  It is such a relaxing place to be and I am so thankful we have it!

While we were there, we did a quick DIY project.  We have two beds without headboards and it has been driving me crazy.  So I thought instead of ordering one and trying to figure out when it would be delivered and arrange my schedule so I could be there for the delivery…why not build my very own headboard.  I love the look of Board and Batten but I am not ready to tackle an entire room. Then I thought why don’t we make a headboard using board and batten…This was our  first attempt and I have to say I really love how it turned out.

Once the boards were in place, I used Valspar Pure White to paint it and the Headboard is now complete.

And this is my view from the bed…Love, Love, Love this place…

New Headboard

August 20, 2013 By stylishrevamp 3 Comments

We finally had to get a new headboard for my youngest son.  He originally had a beautiful antique bed that we had had for years.  It finally met it end a couple nights ago.  Having three boys and antique furniture sometimes is not the best fit! So while my middle son and I were heading to the Island home we decided to stop at some of my favorite shops and look for some accessories for my kitchen. Instead,  I found a fabulous headboard that I could not pass up. I found it at Bay Star, if you are ever in the area you have to check this place out.  It is the BEST!

First, I used easy  liquid sander deglosser because I did not feel like sanding the piece. I chose Benjamin Moore Regal Select Matte Finish in Twilight Zone. I bought both of these products at ACE Hardware.

This is what the headboard looked like when I found it at the shop.

I have never seen a headboard like this before.  I love that it has the cork board and plexiglass sliding doors.  I am sure my son will change it up often but for know this is the finished product:
