To Paint or Not to Paint?

June 15, 2016 By stylishrevamp 1 Comment

Hello everyone! I am happy to say that we are down to the final two days of school here!  Thank Goodness!  That’s all I can say, we are so done with this school year.  It’s been a great year but we are ready to go into summer mode.  We are ready for late nights, lazy days, pool time, the cape, the Island Home and the beach!  It would be ideal if school ended at Memorial Day.

The weather here has been fabulous.  We have had a nice warm breeze and sunny skies which makes for perfect pool days.  I took this photo on Sunday while we were hanging out at the pool.

Enjoying this fabulous weather

Everything is in full bloom and looks so pretty.

So in between being lazy and relaxing by the pool, I finally got around to digging out an old desk lamp that we have had forever. We picked up this desk lamp in Virginia many years ago.  It had no wiring and was a bit beat up but my husband and I both liked it.

To Paint or Not to Paint?

That is what I am trying to decide at the moment.

Vintage Desk Lamo

At first, I was definitely going to paint it, then I went to this website and saw all of their Vintage lamps and now I am undecided.  My hubs told me to live with it for a while and then decide. I think I kind of like it, it reminds me of this vintage Boston Pencil Sharpener that I picked up at the flea market.

Vintage Boston Pencil Sharpener

They look very similar to me.

My husband had to rewire the lamp which he taught me how to do.  It seems like a fairly simple thing that I might try on my own it the future.

Rewiring a vintage lamp

Base of a vintage desk lamp

I love all the small details on this little desk lamp. I am still trying to figure out what screwed into the base of the lamp.  I reached out the website I mentioned earlier, hoping that they could shed some light on that for me. I am not quite sure what the other grooves were for, I am assuming pens and maybe paperclips.  At least that’s what I would use them for.

Until I decide if I am going to paint or not, I will enjoy it in its original state.

What do you think, should I paint or not?

Dining Room Christmas Tour 2015

December 22, 2015 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I cannot believe that Christmas will be here in 4 days.  Last year we went to Italy the day after Christmas and I kind of wish we were going back this year! It was forced time that the boys had to spend with us. Besides that, it was so darn gorgeous!  This year it will be more relaxed which I will definitely enjoy.  We will have family for dinner after Christmas, so today I decided to share my Dining Room Christmas Tour for 2015.

Dining Room Christmas Tour

I am keeping it simple in here this year as well.

Christmas Scented Pinecones scattered in a basket

I added Christmas Scented pine cones to a basket and finished it off with Santa and a wreath.  Easy but festive and it smells fabulous!

Christmas Scene on an Up Cycled Ladder

Vintage Skiing Santa

Vintage Metal Christmas Figurines

I have shared these pieces before but like I mentioned in an earlier post, I use the same decorations year after year.  Although, I do add a few new favorites here and there.  I found the vintage Christmas figurines at a consignment shop for next to nothing. I am always on the look out for more pieces like these.  This year I decided to add them to my up cycled teak ladder. So even though I am using the same pieces, I am mixing it up a bit.

The 12 days of Christmas Stamped Spoons

I have shared these Stamped Spoons before but I can’t help it…Love, Love, Love them!

12 days of Christmas Stamped Spoons

Aren’t they perfect?

Christmas Table Setting

Here’s a glimpse of my Christmas table setting.

So even though I kept it relatively simple in the Dining room it still feels festive! I hope you are almost ready for Santa to make his long journey!  I wish we would get some snow but I think it is supposed to be quite warm here but I am still dreaming of a white Christmas!

Until Next Time,

Thrift Shop Thursday #23: Christmas Finds

December 10, 2015 By stylishrevamp 2 Comments

Welcome to this weeks edition of Thrift Shop Thursday #23.  We are sharing some of our Christmas Finds from local consignment shops and our favorite store… Goodwill!

Thrift Shop Thursday #23 sharing some of our Christmas Finds

The first item up this week is a paper village set.  I picked it up because it reminded me of the village my mom always put under our Christmas tree. I think that was one of her favorite things to do, set up her village.  I would lay under that tree and stare at that village and dream for hours, it was just so pretty and seemed like the perfect town.  It was such a lovely scene.  I come from a family of seven and I am the only girl. It would not take long for one of the boys (who will not be named but we all know who he is) to drive a remote control car through the villages and rapidly try to restore it back to its original state before mom walked back into the room! Boys!  Now I have three and wouldn’t have it any other way!

Christopher Radko presents Shiny Brite Village

When I saw this paper village set by Christopher Radko it was so reminiscent of the ones from my childhood, I knew I had to have it.

Christopher Radko Shiny Brite Villages

I picked the entire set up for a few dollars at a consignment shop.  They are not vintage pieces but they do look similar to the ones my mom has under her tree.

The next piece I am sharing is one that I picked up at Goodwill for $5.  It’s one of those pieces that my husband just looks at and shakes his head.  Well, it was only $5 and I had a plan for it.

Metal Christmas Tree from Goodwill

My original plan for this baby was to hang all of my vintage ornaments on it.  That didn’t work.  The metal branches are too close together to hang the ornaments on.  I still like it and think it looks fabulous as is…it is still not a favorite for my hubby.  I am thinking Santa can put a few small presents under it and we are good to go!

My last find for today is another Christmas Tree. This one is a Christmas Tree card holder. I picked it up from Goodwill last summer.  We love displaying the Christmas cards we receive each year. We used to tape them on the door in the kitchen, then I made a ribbon to attach them to one year but this tree is my favorite for displaying the cards.

Christmas Tree card display

It is perfect.  Everyone can see the cards and it is easy to pull the cards out and read them at any time.

That wraps up this weeks Thrift Shop Thursday #23: Christmas Finds. I hope you are enjoying this Holiday Season as much as I am.

Until Next Time,

Gift Wrapping Ideas for Christmas

December 7, 2015 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Now that the majority of my Christmas decorating is complete, I have time to start wrapping some of my gifts. Each year, I think I am going to wrap the same day that I buy a gift.   This NEVER HAPPENS… ever!  Instead, what I do is hide it in the closet and actually forget what I have bought and where I have hidden it.  Then I have a minor panic attack when I can’t find something.  I have always kept a journal with all the gifts I have bought with the receipts because I usually Christmas shop all year round.  I like picking up things when we travel if I see something unique.

I  actually like to wrap gifts, especially when I am not feeling stressed for time.  I like coming up with ideas and different ways to make my wrapped packages special.

Christmas Wrapping Ideas

This year I am using items that I have found at consignment shops, The Dollar General Store, PotteryBarn, and T.J. Maxx.

Vintage Pins and Brooches from a consignment shop.

I was at a consignment/antique shop a few years ago when I spotted these vintage pins and brooches.  They were in a baskets dumped in a ziploc baggie.  The basket had a mix of things like jewelry, buttons, and other odds and ends.  I found this bag full of Christmas pins and I thought they were so cute.  My mom used to buy me Christmas pins when I was little to wear on my coat. Maybe that’s why I like them so much.  Instead of wearing them though, I decided to incorporate them into my gift wrapping.

Vintage Holiday PinBrooch

Last year once the Holiday was over, I was shopping in PotteryBarn and spotted these glittery initials on clearance.  I thought they would look nice on a package rather than using a gift tag. This year, I found some glittery letters at Jo-Anne Fabric as well.

Glittery letters from PotteryBarn used as gift tags.

The Dollar Store and the Dollar General Store both have a lot of things to use for making your gift wrapping unique and special. I found this reindeer at The Dollar General Store.  It came in packs of two.

Glittery Reindeer from Dollar General Store.

They have both gold and red reindeer.  I also like to pick up all my Holiday tissue paper, tape, boxes and gift card boxes at the Dollar Store.

The last idea I am sharing is this adorable gift bag from TJ Maxx.

Giant Gift bag from TJ Maxx

This gift bag is awesome.  It’s made of thick red canvas with a soft white faux fur trim and white lettering.  It is thick and sturdy not to mention so darn cute! I am filling this up then shipping it out soon!

I hope you have enjoyed my Gift Wrapping Ideas for Christmas!  Have a good week!

Until Next Time,

Thrift Shop Thursday #22

December 3, 2015 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Welcome to Thrift Shop Thursday #22.  This week I am sharing some of my favorite Christmas finds. I am always on the lookout for Christmas items even when we travel.

Thrift Shop Thursday #22

First up this week, I am sharing my red and green espresso mugs.  I found these at a little shop for 25 cents!  #cute

Holiday Espresso Mugs

I think they are adorable.  I like to use them with my DIY Christmas Countdown Sign.  They are the perfect size to hold my chalk for the changing days on my sign.

dscn7195

Once Christmas if over, I could use them for espresso but no… someone packed up my espresso machine over Thanksgiving Break and took it back with him to college! XOXO to him!

The next two finds I am sharing with you is something I am always on the look out for when I am thrift shopping.  I really like Vintage Christmas Light Bulbs.  I especially like the milk glass bulbs. They have so much detail.

VIntage Light Bulbs tucked into a Vintage bowl Could you imagine a string of these vintage light bulbs on your tree?  I think it would be so pretty rather than the mini white twinkling lights we use today. I am a Nervous Nelly when it comes to fire safety, so I just put them in vintage bowls (also picked up at a thrift shop) and scatter them around the house.

Vintage Milk Glass

The large oval milk glass bulbs are my favorite.  These were the very first bulbs I  ever bought and I haven’t seem any others like them either.  The search continues…

Well, that’s it for this week of Thrift Shop Thursday #22.  I will share more of my Vintage Holiday Finds next week.

I think I might brave this cold weather and attempt to fix the outside lights!

Until Next Time,

My Flea Market Picks

November 17, 2015 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago, I told you about my Flea Market trip.  Today, I am going to share with you my Flea Market Picks.   Even though I was overwhelmed with the sheer volume of items on display, I managed to walk away with a few little favorite picks!

My Flea Market Picks

I found several different bottle brush trees but this little guy was my favorite.

Vintage Bottle Brush Tree

I like the red base, it just looks  “Christmassy” to me.  I am happy to add to my collection!

Another Christmas piece I found is this vintage light.

Vintage Christmas Star Light

I am always on the lookout for vintage Christmas Bulbs.  They are all so different from what we use to decorate with today.  Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing some of my favorite vintage Christmas Bulbs that I have found at thrift shops over the years.

My last Flea Market Pick that I am sharing is these vintage picks.

Vintage Picks with Llamas

I have never seen anything like these before.  I think the llama detail is adorable.

Vintage Picks

Flea Markets and Thrift Shops have all sorts of unique items that you cannot find in a department stores.  That is just one of the many reasons I am so into Thrift Shopping.  I really like the stories behind the pieces I collect and displaying them throughout the house adds a unique flair and instant character.

I hope you enjoyed My Flea Market Picks!

What items do you like to collect?

Until Next Time,

Revamping a Vintage Wash Stand

August 16, 2015 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I recently completed my home office which you can see here.  I have been using the office for a few months now and I really love this space.  I find myself adding small little touches here and there, and most recently I added a new/old piece for a spot behind my desk.  I think the revamped wash stand fits into my office perfectly.

Vintage Christmas

December 22, 2013 By stylishrevamp 2 Comments

I love finding Vintage Christmas decorations.  Most of the things I find remind me of Christmas back home with my parents and my brothers and some of the things I buy because they just seem so unique to me.

My mom had Christmas carolers  that she used every year at Christmas.  That is probably why I fell in love with these…

Vintage Christmas Carollers

She also had little reindeers similar to these

Gingerbread Christmas Tree with Vintage Reindeers

I love all the memories these items bring back to me.

Vintage Christmas Ornaments

One of my Shiny Brite ornaments…there is just something about vintage ornaments…just love them.

Vintage Santa Claus

These two Santas are my all time favorite.  I think they are so adorable.  I don’t know anything about them but they are so special to me.

Vintage Christmas Village Skaters and sled

Another one of my favorites…my metal Santa, ice skaters, police officer, skiers and sled riders.

Vintage Christmas Santa Lights Milk Glass            Vintage Milk Glass Christmas Lights             VIntage Milk Glass Christmas Ornaments

These are vintage Christmas Light Bulbs.  When we travel I always try to find at least one to add to my collection.  I really would like to add them to a light strand but I haven’t found one that I feel comfortable using.  My oldest brother is a firefighter so I am a bit cautious when it comes to things like that.  So instead of lighting them, I place them in little bowls and Christmas dishes.

VIntage Christmas Plate

Just another Vintage plate hanging in the alcove above Santa.

Vintage Christmas Candle Holders, Plant Holders and Salt and Pepper Shakers                    Vintage Santa and Mrs. Clause Figurines

Here are some Vintage collectibles.  Some of these are salt and pepper shakers, candle holders, and plant holders/vases.  Like I said some of these things are similar to the things my mom decorated with at Christmas time but the other things just remind me of that time in my life… such great memories of Christmas Past!

Christmas Home Tour

December 8, 2013 By stylishrevamp 6 Comments

Welcome to our Christmas Home Tour.  Sit back with a warm drink and enjoy some of our favorite Holiday decorations.  I love pulling these decorations out year after year.  It brings back such lovely memories of Christmas past.  We also try to add a few new touches along with some favorite vintage finds. I hope you all enjoy!

Christmas Decor

This is our family room tree.  We go each year to a farm and choose the largest tree we can find.  This is where Santa leaves all the gifts.

The view from upstairs… I like watching the boys look over the banister on Christmas morning!

We leave cookies and milk for Santa on this fireplace Hearth.

Vintage Sled With with Flocked Tree Branches

This is a vintage sled that my husband and I bought before we were married.  I just spruced it up with  some pine branches and ribbon and sprayed everything with a light dusting of snow.

Vintage Shiny Brite Christmas Ornaments

I like to use some of my favorite vintage finds on the Family room Christmas tree like these Shiny Brite ornaments! I love finding vintage Holiday decorations.  I also have the milk glass light bulbs that I will show you in a later post.  They are one of my favorite Christmas items.

Next up is my foyer.

Banister decked out for Christmas

I put  garland around the front stairs.  I also add snowmen on each step.  I got this idea from a dear friend that uses Nutcrackers.  Thanks Debbie for the great idea!

Large Pinecone Christmas Decor

This is the mirror by my front door.  I add the large pinecone every year.  I like the simplicity of it.

Wooden Santas

My tech guy Gman  made the snowman in art class and my Best Friend gave me the lovely Santa for Christmas last year!

Vintage Christmas Plate

When my oldest two boys were younger, I would let them pick pick out a special Christmas decoration. My youngest still carries on this tradition.  This Santa is something my middle son picked out.  I added the vintage plate above in the alcove and the garland with winterberry.

Next up is my Kitchen Christmas Tree.  I love this tree, it is an oldie but a goodie.  I decorate this pencil tree with all the boys’ handmade ornaments and gifts from school.

Flea Market Finds

September 21, 2013 By stylishrevamp 5 Comments

Remember I told you my youngest and I went to a Flea Market, a few yard sales and a Consignment shop last weekend.  We had a lot of fun even though we didn’t find a lot of stuff.

Flea Market

It is the thought of finding that one great thing even if it doesn’t look so great when you find it!  I asked my middle son a couple of weeks ago when he was with me at The Island Home if he ever got sick of driving me all over going to my favorite spots and I just loved his answer. He said, ” No Mom, I think it is pretty neat when you see something and and tell me you have to have it and I think what does she want that_____ (insert any word that a teen might use to describe some of the things we bring home from the side of the road) for because I just don’t see it.”  He then tells me that he thinks it’s pretty cool how my projects turn out!  Anyway,  this is the first thing I found at the Flea Market and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.
