Project Plans and Wish List for 2017

January 29, 2017 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I always have several projects and plans swirling around my head and I am hoping to get to several of them in 2017 while some may remain on my wish list. A few of them are bigger projects and others are just fun small-scale projects that I hope to complete.

I will start with a few of the smaller projects that I would like to tackle this year.  The first of which is in our master bedroom.  We have a beautiful fireplace in the sitting room of our master bedroom which you can see here.  I love the fireplace but want to make some minor changes to it and I saw this image and knew that I wanted to do something very similar.

(Blesser House)

I found this at Blesser House.  If you haven’t checked her out already, you need to do so now.  She has so many great ideas and right now I am swooning over the ship lap above the fireplace. I am hoping to do something similar to this soon.  I will keep you posted once we get started on it!

Another smaller project that is underway at the moment is a faux fireplace/mantle.  This is something my youngest wanted for his room.  He is already dreaming of his first apartment in NYC! So why not let him design the room he wants here at home first. He  has a tall chest of drawers that he doesn’t use so a faux Fireplace/mantle will replace it soon. Here are a few that we saw and drew inspiration from.

I think this one from Petite Party Studio  is fabulous.  I like the herringbone insert.

I like the wood plank wall paper on this one by Kate’s Creative Space. My son likes the look of the wood insert. I was thinking where the insert is, we could paint it using black chalkboard paint and he could switch it out as he pleases.  We haven’t made a final decision on it yet.

Project Plans and Wish List for 2017

One of the larger projects we are thinking of doing this year is replacing all the carpeting upstairs with hardwoods like the kind we installed on our main level a few years ago.

5 inch wide Hickory Hardwood Flooring by Shaw

I would like to continue this hardwood flooring upstairs.  It is 5 inches wide, Hickory Hardwood by Shaw. I am hoping to do this later in the year as well as changing out our stair railing with something like this…

I really, really want to change out our stair railing for one of these options above.  I like the horizontal bars best but would settle for any of the others! This may be one of the projects that might have to remain on my wish list for a while! I like the look of the iron railing and think it is time for a change though.

So there you have it, my wish list both big and small for 2017.  Yes, I have many more projects floating around in my mind but these are just a few I thought I would share with you!

Until Next Time,

Why I Like Shopping at the Vintage Market

September 18, 2016 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Last weekend I stopped by a local Vintage Market Place called GypsyFaire.  A friend had mentioned it to me, so I decided to check it out with my husband.  It was awesome!  I cannot believe I have never been and it is literally 15 minute away.

I love shopping at Vintage Markets. I always walk away with something unique.

You all know that I love shopping vintage and consignment shops and places like this is one of the reasons why I like shopping at Vintage Markets. It had so many unique pieces.  I love when you can find pieces that are different, one of a kind pieces and simply put… Fabulous.  I could have spent hours walking through the market but I had my husband with me. Next time, it will be a girls trip.  Even though it was a quick walk thru of the market, it was very successful!

I have been on the lookout for a nice fireplace tool set and finally found one for our outdoor fireplace. It is a nice heavy cast iron set. This piece will be perfect outside.

Fireplace Tools

I have been on the lookout for a set like this one for a long time.  We have an outdoor fireplace that we like to use but every time we would have a nice fire roaring, the person manning the fire would always use a stick to poke around at the logs. Not that there is anything wrong with that but I guess I was feeling nostalgic.  My dad always used a fireplace tool set to poke at the fire when I was younger.  I feel like the older I become, the more I want pieces of my childhood in my home.

I have found many sets at Goodwill and a few at some antique shops. They were either too expensive or not conducive to the outdoors. The fireplace tool set we found at the Gypsy Faire is solid forged iron.  It was so heavy, I had trouble lifting it.  This is perfect for the elements outside.  I won’t have to worry about it being knocked over every time the wind blows and I won’t have to watch the males in this household poking the burning logs with a twig ever again!

So once we found the fabulous fireplace set, which I might add was about 6 minutes into the market, my hubs was quickly heading to the check out line. He kindly said I could continue looking around but I kind of felt the pressure to move it along.

Finding Unique Pieces

I did manage to snag two other pieces that I adore. First up is this vintage door knob photo holder.

I love this vintage door knob that has been repurposed into a lovely photo holder.

Isn’t this piece delightful?  I think it is absolutely charming! My favorite thing at the moment is displaying snapshots throughout the house in unique little holders and this one is spot on…perfection.

As my husband was moving rapidly to the front of the check out line, I was able to scoop up something I had had my eye on since we first walked into the market.  I don’t know about you but sometimes it is hard for me to shop for seasonal items (except Christmas items) when it seems to early in the season for it. Case in point…this pumpkin.

I am loving this decorative rusty metal pumpkin candle holder.

I loved it when I first saw it but it was 98 degrees outside, I was sweating like I had just completed an intense workout (which I had not) and it was the first weekend in September.  I know Pinterest has been full of pumpkins and Autumn Home tours lately but I think I will wait until October or at least the last week of September!

As my husband inched closer and closer to the front of the line, I thought last chance and I grabbed it! I am so happy that I did.  This rusty pumpkin will fit in quite nicely in my home this Fall.

The GypsyFaire opens the first weekend of each month.  I am sure this trip was the first of many to come.

Until Next Time,

2016 Outdoor Home Tour

June 25, 2016 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I thought since we have had some great weather recently, I would share a quick outdoor tour of our home.  The Spring weather earlier this year has really helped my yard and plants. I will admit outdoor work is not really my thing but I have gotten into it a bit more this year.

Outdoor Home Tour 2016

I think my favorite part of our yard is all the little pathways.

Landscaping the pool area

This one is a bit more difficult to see, but it is a flagstone walkway meandering through the pool area to the side of the house.  This is my favorite spot. I like that the path is surrounded by a stacked stone wall, Vinca, skip laurels, Japanese Maple Tree, and the yellow climbing roses.

Back Patio Area

(Paver walkway and patio leading to the back of the house)

Our back patio is enclosed with a stone wall and  has a step down area with an outdoor fireplace. It feels like an outdoor room. This photo is not recent but I love how the fireplace looks all decorated. At the moment, I have a crew outside replacing some damaged wood pieces on our deck and trim.  I will share an updated photo in a later post.

Decorating and outdoor fireplace with fresh clipping in a planter and a fresh cut wreath.

I remember many years ago my parents were here and we built a big fire in the fireplace. My mom was a bit panicked but laughing so hard because I built that big fire using junk that my husband had in the garage that should have been trashed many years beforehand. (Mainly it was scrap wood and boxes.)  Anyway, he never missed any of that stuff I cleaned out of the garage.  It will be interesting to see if he reads this post! Yikes!

My potted herb garden, it’s small but it works for me.

Concrete pots on the front porch

This is one of my concrete pots that I shared here on  Thrift Shop Thursday. I have two of them and they flank the front entrance on our porch.  I bought the plants at Kmart. $11 that’s it and they are doing great.  I saw the same thing at a local nursery for $36.

Landscaping around the pool and pergola

Our pergola..my husband came up with this idea.  Did we need it? No, but we love it! Even though it is completely open, it feels like a room out by the pool.  The plants are finally starting to fill in nicely.  Love, Love, love it!

Yellow Climbing Roses on the pergola

Our yellow roses are finally starting to make their way up the pergola and down the fence line.  I am really liking the pops of yellow in our yard.

I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into our outdoor living space.  It is always a work in progress but I finally feel like it is coming together.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of my WV readers, be safe!
