My sunroom reveal using IKEA EKTORP furniture has been a long time in the making. I have known for quite some time exactly what I wanted, it just took awhile to pull it together. Finally, I am sharing it with you today!
Designing a room with IKEA Ektorp Series
I have been eyeing this furniture for such a long time. I have read all the reviews I could find and quite honestly for the price, I just don’t see where anyone could go wrong with this buy. With three boys, a husband and a dog, I like that I will be able to take off the covers and wash them and if they are beyond saving through washing, I can buy a replacement slipcover at an extremely affordable price!
Here is a look back at the room before we revamped it…
and after.
Changing Warm Tones to Cool Colors for a Crisp Look
The first thing that we did was paint the room an off white shade from McCormick Paints, Cool Platinum-005. I knew that I was going with the Ektorp Series from Ikea in the Tygelsjo Beige. I wanted my accent colors to be different shades of blue, white, grey and beige. I picked up different pieces over the summer such as the curtains, pillows, and throws which I showed you here.
As for the rest of my pieces, such as the lamps, vases, trays, and my wall mirror, I kept what I had and sprayed them in different shades of navy, grey and white. The candlesticks I hand painted with chalk paint.
Using Spray Paint to Revamp Old Pieces
I knew that I was going to spray a lot of pieces in this room, so one day I just set up outside and got to work. After doing all of this spraying, I think I am going to invest in the Home Right Sprayer. I sprayed 3 lamps, 3 candle holders, 3 vases, one large mirror, a pedestal candle holder and 3 nesting trays. It was cheaper than buying all new pieces for the room. Besides, I liked what I had, I just needed them to be a different color to go with the new look.
It’s hard to tell in the photo but the new color for the nesting trays are navy, grey and white. I have had these trays for a long time and love them.
I used chalk paint on these candle holders. Again, a quick easy change.
You can see the details on the transformation of this lamp here.
The room feels much larger with the lighter colors on the walls and furniture.

I picked up the dog throw in a great little shop in St. Michaels over the summer.

If you look closely at the photo of the lamps in the before and after shots, you can see these vases sitting in the corner before they were painted.
I am really enjoying this room. I love how the look evolved by picking up different pieces over a several month period and adding them to what I already had. I like that we were able to reuse all of my accessory pieces by painting them. I could not be happier with the IKEA Ektorp Series. I will keep you updated on how well it holds up over time. Again, I think for the price and the look of the pieces you cannot find a better deal.
Here is a reminder of what the room was before.
I hope you enjoyed my sunroom reveal.
Until Next Time,

Oh Kathy you are a women after my own heart with all of your spray painted pieces. I will spray paint just about anything myself. I love your color scheme. The blue and white is so crisp and really beautiful. We just did our screened in porch in the same colors and I am loving it. Your room was very pretty before but now it looks so fresh and stylish. Great job!
Thanks for sharing at SYS and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Thank You! I thought I loved the room before but I am really enjoying the more neutral colors. It makes the room feels much more open.
