I am just about done with the finishing touches on our Neutral Dining Room. Although, is any room ever really finished? I still haven’t switched out the chandelier and I may add some more wall decor but for now, I am calling it finished (almost)!
I have shared bits and pieces of this room in the past but I was photographing around the fact that I still had the large red Persian rug under the table. I have looked everywhere for an area rug that would work in here but I needed a 10′ x 14′ and they are not cheap. I really didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a rug because then I would feel obligated to keep it for a long time! I was also looking for something neutral. I really like the jute rugs I found at Pier 1 but their largest was a 9′ x 12′ .My chairs would have been hanging off the edge of the carpet! I am thinking about using the just rug from Pier 1 in the sunroom.
I went to Home Depot and and was able to pick out a carpet that I liked. They were able to cut it to size, add a felt backing and bound it for a great price.
I chose a neutral color with a repeating pattern. It really helped to lighten the room.
Another change that made a huge impact was painting the wall and switching out the curtains.
The new paint color and curtains make this room so much lighter and brighter. My husband also added the trim on the bottom half of the wall.
My favorite piece of furniture in the Dining Room is the old buffet. It used to be in an old house we bought and the owner sold it to us. They were using it as a kitchen Island. It is such a unique piece. I reworked the Dining Room so I could add it to the space.
I love this piece of furniture. I love the stain color, the marble top and all the little drawers that open up both ways. When it was used as an Island you could open the drawers from either side. I am not sure if the shelf above was original to the piece or if the previous owners just stained it to match. Either way, I love it! Also, notice all the white dishes…yep, just some of my Goodwill finds!
I orginally shared these two chairs here. I am so glad I painted them. I just have them placed in the corners of the dining room for extra seating, plus I just like the way they look now! I love the drop cloth seats.
Also, in the picture above you can get a better look at the trim work my hubs did for me.
I am enjoying the new look of this room. With just some paint, new carpet, new curtains, and some thrift shop finds I think this room takes on an entirely new look!
So that’s my dining room, mixing old with new and coming up with a new light and neutral space.
I am still working on my office and the sunroom. I am just waiting for some furniture pieces to be delivered. I also need to finish painting some accessory pieces . I can’t wait to share it with you!
Until Next Time…
