I recently completed my home office which you can see here. I have been using the office for a few months now and I really love this space. I find myself adding small little touches here and there, and most recently I added a new/old piece for a spot behind my desk. I think the revamped wash stand fits into my office perfectly.
My hubby and I picked this piece up sometime last summer on one of our junkin’ trips. It has been sitting in the garage since we bought it. When we first got it home, I painted it with a homemade version of chalk paint. Then it sat it the garage and all the males in this household used it to store car parts, tools, and whatever junk they did not want in their cars.
I have been looking for a small console type of table for behind my desk and haven’t found anything that I liked. I wanted something small with a bit of storage for my camera and accessories. Then I remembered the vintage wash stand sitting in the garage. I really liked this piece and it was time to move it out of the garage.
This is what the wash stand looked liked before I painted it.
I think this piece is charming and I could have sanded it down and stained it but I wanted a lighter feel for it.
After sitting in the garage for over a year, and collecting the unwanted things the boys no longer used, the piece needed to be sanded and repainted…again!
Since I was starting over, I decided to spray it a glossy white.
I also switched out the knobs for these glasslike knobs with a gold base. I picked them up at Home Depot for a few dollars. The Gman did not like them at all! He said they were too girlie. I think he was shocked when I said, “Well, your mom is a girl after all.” The look on his face was priceless. I guess to him I am just mom. [Gman Edit: I did not hate them I just didn’t think it fit the wash thingy!]
This was such a simple update even though it took me over a year to finally use it. I keep reminding my husband that he cannot consider me a hoarder because I do use all of the junk I pick up…sometimes it just takes me a while. Awe, and check out the Gman when he was a babe. Gosh, that seems like it was yesterday…time is moving too quickly! Am I the only one that gets weepy when summer is winding down and the kids are heading back to school? 🙁
I picked the lamp up at TJ Maxx for a steal. The tray on the bottom shelf is one that I have had for a long time. It came as a set of three stacking trays. They were lacquered maroon and didn’t go with anything in the house since we switched up all the paint colors. I was ready to toss them but decided to give them a quick coat of gold paint to see if I liked them. I think they are keepers now! I will spray paint just about anything. It is such a quick and easy transformation.
So, I was able to put my revamped vintage wash stand to good use and clear out the garage a bit more. It’s a win/win for everyone!
