A Quick Revamp in the Kitchen with a Goodwill Find

September 16, 2018 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Goodwill was good to me this summer.  Later this week,  I will be doing a post with all of my summer goodies from my thrifting adventures.  For now, I wanted to share a quick revamp in the kitchen with a Goodwill find.

Have you ever heard of a Windsor Birdcage chair?  I can’t say that I have either.  Well, let me introduce you to my latest love…

Windsor Birdcage Chairs found at Goodwill

I bought six of these for $5 a piece. They caught my eye as soon as I saw them but I was kind of having a conversation with myself along the lines of,  “Do I really need more furniture?”  I thought they were really pretty and the stain went well with my floors and my kitchen table.  I sent a picture to my husband and he was on the fence about it.  Then I sent him a picture of the price of the chairs I found online…he changed his mind and said, ” For $30 bucks, go for it!”

The price I found below is for a black paint finish.  This description is from the same place where my chairs are manufactured.  So, yes, for $5 I’ll take all 6 please!

Goodwill Deal of the Day
I found three side chairs and three arm chairs.  I thought it was unusual that someone would buy three arm chairs.  It wasn’t until my son pointed it out but a spindle was broken on one of the arms chairs.  It was glued back together. I took it to a shop to see if it could be repaired.  I am waiting to see what he can come up with.  In the mean time, I keep going back to Goodwill to see if they have a 4th side chair just incase the chair in the shop can’t be fixed for a decent price.
Updating my kitchen with a great Goodwill Find
I know I’ve said it before but I have to say it again…I love Goodwill.  Where else can you go and buy 6 chairs for $30? I mean really!
I did a few other quick changes to the decor in the kitchen that I will share later this week.   I hope you all had a great weekend and for my readers that were in the path of Hurricane Florence, I am thinking of you!
Until Next Time,

Creating a Home Office Space

Home Office Creativiy

We are in the planning stages of creating a home office space.  I had originally planned on making an office space in the basement and I did create a desk space that I love which you can see here.  BUT it is in the basement and I am just going to say it…that basement scares me to the point that I will not go down there unless someone else is with me.  If I am forced to go downstairs by myself,  I reach my hand around the corner to turn the light on before I even start down the steps.  Then I get what I need and run as fast as I can back up the stairs and shut the door. I consider it my aerobic workout for the day.  In all seriousness, it is a nice space but it is too dark for me.  The boys like to hang out with their friends and play pool and watch movies.   So for now, we will just leave it as the man cave!

The Back Story

December 31, 2013 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I admit I am not one that goes on the hunt for fabulous furniture finds with all the knowledge I may need.  When I do go on the hunt, I don’t even know what I am looking for until I find it.  Well, that is about to end.  I am sure you all have heard of One Kings Lane.  It is an online marketplace that has great collections of designer and vintage items that are listed daily.  If you haven’t checked them out you really should! Not only is it an online marketplace but they also have a blog and a fabulous Home Decor Resource which they have asked us to help introduce it to you.

Antique Chair

Check out one of my chairs that I have had for years and did not know anything about it.  I like it because it is unique. By going to the Home Decor Resource Guide by One Kings Lane I learned that my chair is the same style as a Wainscot Chair.

Decorative Carved Wooden Antique Chair

I love all the detail on the back and the arms of the chair.

Carved Antique Chair

I love the versatility of chairs.  All of my chairs I am sharing today are accent chairs.  I like using them when I have dead space in an area plus they can always be pulled to the table for extra seating.

The next chair I am sharing is in the Queen Anne Style.  The Queen Anne Style usually have carved motifs of shells, sunbursts or acanthus leaves.  They also have cabriole legs.

Queen Anne Side Chair

The last chair I am sharing is a William and Mary Style Chair. I have shared this on the blog  which you can find here.

William and Mary Type Side Chair

If you haven’t already checked out the Home Decor Resource Guide from One Kings Lane yet you really should.  Next time I am out shopping for my vintage finds I will be sure to use the Home Decor Resource Guide to know what I am buying!

Chair Revamp

September 10, 2013 By stylishrevamp 9 Comments

When I bought two new chairs for the kitchen table I carried the old ones upstairs and put them in the closet.  They have been in that closet for 8 long months…  Waiting and waiting to be revamped.  I reupholstered the other four that I use in the kitchen at the Island home but for some reason I just didn’t have it in me to complete the final two.  I was dreading pulling out the nailhead trim.  It is so time consuming but I have to say this time around it didn’t take that long at all. Maybe that is because I snuck outside and I wasn’t disturbed by the boys needing one thing or another. Plus it was a gorgeous day. So here is the finished kitchen chair.

Vintage Dining Room Chair Revamp with Drop Cloth and Chalk Paint

I think she turned out just perfect.  This is exactly what I was wanting to do but it just took awhile to get started.

A few of my favorite things…

July 27, 2013 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Finally, back at the Island Home. I have been looking around at a few of my favorite things and thought I would share them with you.

Vintage Nautical Tin Tray

I found this lovely Nautical tray at a consignment shop.  I am going to use it as top for a small end table in the loft/attic room.  I have already attached it to a milk can. (Yes, another milk can!) When it’s completely revamped I will post a picture.

Vintage Wire Basket

I also found this metal basket at a consignment shop. I have it in the kitchen under the china cabinet.  I love it.

Vintage Wicker Club Chair

I bought this wicker chair a couple years ago at the same place I bought the desk and vanity that I showed you here. I bought two of them and they are so comfortable. Especially sitting on the screened in porch watching the sunset.  The porch pillow I bought at Coco & Co. in St. Michaels. You can find their website here. I love, love, love that shop.  If you are ever near St. Michaels you should definitely stop in and check it out!

Vintage Egg Basket

I found this basket/egg carrier on one of my day trips on the Island. It is just one of those I had to have. I keep it on top of my china cabinet that you can find here.

Vintage Canada Dry Bottle Opener     VIntage Canada Dry Bottle Opener

I found this vintage Canada Dry bottle opener when we were in Maine and I knew that I would put it in the the kitchen at the Island Home.  I want to make or find a small tin/metal box to place below it to catch the bottle caps.  It reminds me of drinking cherry cream soda with my brother when were were with my dad.

Vanity Chair

July 23, 2013 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I dragged my boys with me today to drop some clothes off at Goodwill and of course I had to shop while I was there.  I found this chair for $5 that’s right $5.  I knew that it would look good with my new desk that I found and showed you here.

photo-4 copy 6       I used my  hand sander to rough up this $5 find.  I primed it with Rust-Oleum primer and painters touch in flat white.  I finished it off with Ace premium light gray gloss.  I think it will look great with my new/old desk!
