I have been working on a project with my husband for the last couple of weeks and I am so excited about our plans. I just hope it turns out like I have pictured it in my head. We have been talking about redoing our kitchen for awhile now and when the freezer went out again among other things we finally decided to move ahead. Since our home has an open floor plan I told my husband if we do the kitchen then we have to do the familyroom. The familyroom is just cosmetic changes though, the major changes will be happening in the kitchen. Then one thing led to another and so here we are still in the planning stages but slowly and steadily moving forward.
I think we have the appliance selected and I am loving them! We will have to do some trim work and actual cabinetry work for the new vent over our range top. The one we have now is a downdraft which won’t work with what we are planning on buying. Once we move a little further in the project I will let you know what appliances we are going to be using and share some pictures as well.
We still need to look at granite slabs but I know what I am looking for…something similar to carrerra marble but more durable! With three boys and a husband and the way we live with boys in and out it would not last a week without stains or etching! I really tried to convince myself that we would be able to do it but then I came back to reality and knew it just wouldn’t work for our family. I have a couple of ideas of what I want but I need to see the actual slab before making a final decision.
I want to paint my cabinets white and have white and grey countertops with subway tiles for a backsplash and stainless steel appliances. Completely different than the french country kitchen that we have today. I still love my kitchen but I am ready for a change.
As for the flooring, we have tile in the kitchen and I want to rip them out and replace them with hardwood. My first choice was an 8 inch hickory from Shaw that I loved, loved, loved. You can see it here. GORGEOUS! I really wanted it! After talking with different flooring reps I quickly learned that with this household it would probably buckle and cupping would probably happen…it would only be a matter of time. Someone leaving a window or door open on a hot humid day or the puppy having an accident on the floor. Not worth it besides the price was way over my budget! So my next choice is a 5 inch hard handscraped piece of Hickory. Just waiting on pricing which so far has not been in my favor!
I will keep you updated as we finalize plans.
