It’s that time again…Thrift Shop Thursday #14. I am sharing some more of my Island Home thrifted finds. This house was so much fun to decorate with all my finds. It gives it a look that appears to have evolved over time when in reality, I pulled most of the house together in about two months.
The first piece I am sharing is the fireplace mantel.
We found the fireplace mantel in a garage in the back of one of my favorite shops on the Eastern Shore. We asked the guy if he had any mantels because we didn’t see any in the shop and he let us dig around in his garage and this is what we found. Well, it didn’t exactly look like this when we found it. It was covered in about 5 layers of paint ranging from the dark green porch paint to dark brown. We tried stripping it down to the bare wood because originally I wanted to stain it. My grandma had one just like this in her house and I loved it. We stripped and scraped then stripped and scraped some more. The wood was damaged in places but I loved it. Once we got as many layers of paint off as we could we decided to paint it white instead of stain it. Now the only thing I need to figure out is how to get the gold strips off the fireplace. I saw Sabrina Soto do it once on HGTV and it looked so easy but so far it hasn’t worked for me.
My next find is an old vintage dry sink which we are using as a nightstand.
Several people have asked me if I am going to refinish it. I say nope, I like it the way it is. It fits in my little Island Home perfectly…casual and relaxed!
I picked this piece of artwork up at a consignment shop for a few dollars. I like using pieces like this in my home because it’s pieces like this that make our home look like it has evolved over time. Plus, I found it charming!
The last find I am sharing is this vintage milking stool.
Yep, it is one of those things that I definitely did not need but had to have. Plus, when the Gman was younger he would sit on it and he looked so darn adorable!
Well that wraps it up for this weeks Thrift Shop Thursday #14. Soon we will be off on a little adventure and hopefully I will be able to share some photos. So if you get a chance check us out on:
Until Next Time…
