DIY Gold Glitter Believe Sign

December 8, 2015 By stylishrevamp 1 Comment

Today I decided to skip the gym and head out to do some Christmas shopping.  That was a workout within itself!  It is so nice to come home to a decorated home.  I really like our home but I especially like it at Christmas time.  I would like to have twinkling lights up all year round.

I mentioned last week that I was going to share my DIY Gold Glitter Believe Sign. This was another quick, easy and inexpensive project.  The longest part was waiting for the paint to dry.

DIY Gold Glitter Believe Sign

Supplies Needed:

Scrap wood

Vinyl Lettering  (I made mine with my Cricut Cutter)

White Paint

Gold Glitter Paint

I had some scrap wood in the garage and the paint was also something I had on hand.  The first thing you need to do is put your base coat of paint on your piece of wood.  I chose white as my base color.  I let that dry overnight.

I used my Cricut Cutter to make the vinyl letters. (Mine was a gift from Santa) If you do not have a craft cutter you can use vinyl stickers from Michaels Craft Store.  I used stickers on my Christmas Countdown Sign and My Family Birthday Calendar and they worked perfectly.

So once your base coat is dry, place you lettering on the sign. I then sprayed several light coats of the gold glitter paint over the entire sign.  I let the gold paint dry but not completely.  I then pulled the vinyl lettering off to reveal the white lettering underneath.

I added my Believe Sign to my Ikea Billy Bookcase in my office for a little Christmas bling.

Next week I am planning on sharing my Christmas Home Tour but for now, I am off to hide some presents before the Gman gets home from school.

DIY Rag Wreath

September 28, 2015 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Today I am sharing a very simple and quick project.  I made a rag wreath for my newly revamped sunroom.

Blue and White DIY Rag Wreath.

I have seen several different rag wreaths all over Pinterest and thought I would give it a try.  For my DIY Rag Wreath, I used an old sheet.  I ripped it into several 1″by 4″ strips. I attached the fabric to an old embroidery hoop simply by tying a knot in the fabric around the loop.

DIY Rag Wreath

This really was an easy project.  I was in the middle of doing laundry and packing for our trip back home to my nephews wedding. By packing, I mean, I packed all of my things then had to get the boys suits organized so nothing was left behind like dress shoes or dress socks or dress pants. My husband walked into the kitchen and just looked at me, I knew he was thinking don’t you have enough to do so we can get out of here? Why add another project on top of everything else? But he didn’t say anything, I am assuming he thought it best not to since we had a four hour car trip ahead of us.

I was able to hang the wreath and get these three guys to the wedding looking this handsome!

Kitchen Tour on the Island

April 14, 2015 By stylishrevamp 4 Comments

Today I am sharing an updated tour of our kitchen in the Island Home.  I had previously shared the kitchen here.  Even though it was dark and stormy when we were there last, I just love how it feels so comfortable and cozy on our little point on the Island.

Easy DIY Wreath

April 9, 2015 By stylishrevamp 10 Comments

I am sharing an easy DIY wreath.  The entire project took about 15 minutes and it has added a pop of color to my white kitchen. At Christmas time, I had a red berry wreath above the cooktop but I only wanted the pop of red during the Christmas Season.  If I were a bit more organized, I would have made an Easter wreath, maybe next year.

Adding greenery to the kitchen with a DIY wreath

I stopped by Michaels today and picked up my supplies with my 40% off coupon!

DIY Wreath

I trimmed up the greenery, then wrapped it around the grapevine wreath, overlapping as I went.  Super easy. I have been adding touches of green in both my kitchen and dining room.  I really like the pop of green against the white.  It just looks so refreshing to me. The shock of green, up against the cabinet in the kitchen and against the white dishes in the dining room,  really stands out to me. Can you tell it’s my latest obsession?

Adding greenery to the Kitchen

I just love when a project is simple and comes together like I pictured in my head.  So, what is your favorite color to use to add a pop of color to a neutral room?

Until next time…

Easy DIY Headboard

January 12, 2014 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Previously, I showed you our Board and Batten Headboard for the Island Home that you can see here.  Yesterday, my middle son and I made the trek to the Island home to make another headboard.  We wanted to do something similar but with fewer steps.  It was such a spur of the moment kind of trip and I wasn’t even sure if I was  in the mood to start the project.  It was pouring down rain, the wind was blowing and it was so foggy.

Our first stop was Home Depot.  We decided to frame out the headboard and skip the middle slats like we did in the Board and Batten Headboard.  Therefore,  we only needed four pieces of wood.

Supplies:

two 1×4’s cut to 5 feet

one 1×4 cut to 76 inches

one 1×2 cut to 76 inches

nail gun

painters tape

wood filler

sanding block

valspar white paint

DIY Headboard

Board and Batten Headboard

First, we nailed each five foot 1 x 4 in place. Then we added the 76 inch 1 x4 on top.  Easy!!

We added the 1 x 2 on the top to form a ledge.  Once we finished nailing the pieces into place, we used wood filler to patch the holes.  After it dried, we sanded the filler with the sanding blocks for a smooth finish.  We used the Valspar paint that we had left over from a previous project.

DIY Headboard

This is what the room looked like before we made the headboard.  It was such an easy project and it made such an impact on the room

Even though I was not in the mood  to go to the Island, I am so glad that we did.  I just love, love, love it there… even in the rain, wind and fog!!

Thanks B.K.

Revamped Wine Rack

January 6, 2014 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I finished this wine rack several months ago and am just now getting around to sharing with you today.  I found this piece for $19.00 at an antique shop on our way to the Island Home. I am not sure what kind of rack it is but I am going to use it as a wine rack.   This is what it looked like when I found it.

Vintage Wire Rack

I really like the red but it just was a bit too much for the kitchen.  I decided to spray it using the stainless steel paint that I had on hand.  It matches the appliance in the kitchen. It is simple, neat and keeps the kitchen looking organized!

I think this piece is really unique and I am glad I found it!

Nautical Code Flags

July 25, 2013 By stylishrevamp 1 Comment

When we were in Maine last summer I saw the Nautical Code Flags for sale in many of the shops.  They were made of wood and they were used to spell out different words.  Instead of forking over all that money I kept thinking that I could make them myself for next to nothing.  Well, today was that day.

Supply list:  wood cut to any size you want.  I used 6″ by 4″

Acrylic paint in red, white. blue, black and yellow

foam brush

painters tape

craft paint

Once I decided which letters I was going to make in the International Code Flag, I taped off the design and painted my first color.  Once that was dry, I taped the second part of the design. This is what I ended up with and I have to say I am glad I didn’t buy them last summer because they look just like the ones I saw in the shops without the big price tag!

I am not sure where they are going but I do know I will find a home for them.

How to Make A DIY Driftwood Wreath

July 23, 2013 By stylishrevamp 10 Comments

A few days ago I finally decided to use the driftwood that the boys and I have been collecting from the rip rap at our Island Home.   I got the idea from The Wood Grain Cottage which you can find here.  I absolutely love the idea of a driftwood wreath so today I am going to share with you how to make a DIY Driftwood wreath of your own.

How to Make a DIY Driftwood Wreath/A simple guide to making a driftwood wreath

My supply list includes:

Foam wreath form

Burlap

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Driftwood (twigs from your yard if you do not have access to driftwood)

My Supply list for a Driftwood Wreath.

How to Make a DIY Driftwood Wreath

First, I wrapped the foam wreath form in burlap an attached it with hot glue. This was super simple.

The 1st step in making a driftwood wreath, wrap your foam wreath form in burlap.

Once the form was completely cover with the burlap I started adding pieces of the driftwood

2nd step in making a DIY driftwood wreath, adhere pieces of driftwood to the burlap covered foam wreath form. Add pieces in an off set pattern around the wreath.

…and more driftwood

Continue adding driftwood until the entire wreath form is covered.

Until I came up with this:

Completed driftwood wreath

Let it completely dry before hanging.  This was a super easy project although a bit messy.  I am thrilled with how it turned out.  Thanks Shayna from The Wood Grain Cottage for this great idea.

I took the finished wreath down to the Island Home where we found all of the driftwood to begin with and added it to my kitchen.  I have to say that it fits in perfectly. What do you think?

Foyer

Finally, I can show you the entryway into our home.  It is really small but I think it looks adorable.  Notice the home sign that I showed you in an earlier post.  Also, you can see one of the milk jugs that I repainted.  On the lower shelf of the hall table you can see the three canisters.  They came from Goodwill.  Love it! The sea glass inside the canisters…. free… except for the hard work rowing the kayaks out to our favorite place to get sea glass! I have  to say it is one of my favorite things to do with the boys! I am always excited about what hidden treasures we might find! Next up I think I will show you the kitchen!

Home Sign

This is a piece of wood that washed up at high tide.  I love the sun bleached grey colors.  I think it is part of a bushel basket.

I went to Michaels and found the letters and thought they would be perfect.  I spray painted them Gloss Classic Gray from Krylon which I also found at Michaels.  I think this will look perfect hanging in the foyer next to my mirror.  I will post more photos once all the painting and drywall repair work is done and I have had a chance to place everything back into each room.

UPDATE

Here is the the home sign in my foyer at the Island Home.

So for less than six dollars, I have a unique one of a kind sign for my home!
