Adding Fall Touches to your Home

October 20, 2016 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

We are adding simple Fall touches to our Home.

Today it is all about Fall.  This year I am keeping it super easy by adding simple fall touches to our home.  Last year I sorted through all my decorations and donated most of the ones that did not hold special memories for me.  When the boys were little they loved decorating for the Halloween.  This year it is more about Fall rather than Halloween.

Fall Home Tour 2016

This simple wooden Welcome acorn is on our entryway table.

In the kitchen, I added a few pumpkins including the one my youngest made in preschool.  He is now 13.

I also added a Pumpkin Fairy to my wreath.  The pumpkin beside the wreath is the one my son made…out of a roll of toilet paper. He was very excited by this when he was 4 years old which makes me want to save it forever.  I love the ages they all are now but sometimes I really miss that age when everything was so exciting for them.

Adding pumpkins to my tiered tray for a touch of Fall.

Next, we head to the dining room.

Using chalkboard art to decorate for Fall/Halloween

I made the chalkboard banner a few years ago.  You can check it out here.

I added the cotton wreath to this chair for added texture. I also like the tone on tone with the chair colors of white, cream and tan that pick up the same colors in the wreath.

In the family room, I switched out my red pillow for orange pillows and I added a few pumpkins.

2016 Family Room Fall Tour(Notice the greenery, yep that is my poinsettia…it is still alive. Although, I have no idea if it will turn red again!)

I like the added orange touches to this room. I will switch back to red in December and possibly add a new one to the mix! I am into throws and pillows at the moment!

The pumpkin on the end table is another favorite.  My older two boys picked it out about 17 years ago.  It is one I pull out each and every year.  The same goes for the pumpkin below, it’s another one the older two boys picked out.

Foyer Fall Home Tour

The final room I added a few Fall touches to is the Sunroom. I love this room.  It is where we spend most of our time.  It is just a very comfortable space.

Pigs, pumpkins and tobacco baskets

Talk about simple, the tobacco baskets and the pig were already there.  I plopped the pumpkin down with the intentions of painting it cream or white (like you see all over Pinterest) at some point but I can tell that is not going to happen. Besides I am kind of loving the pops of orange throughout the house.

That my friends wraps up our Fall Home Tour, I hope you have enjoyed this glimpse into our home.

Until Next Time,

A Quick Follow Up on my Easy Driftwood Sign

October 17, 2016 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

A quick follow up on my easy Driftwood Sign

A few weeks ago I shared with you an easy DIY paint job on my house sign which you can read about here.  Today I wanted to share with you a quick follow up on that driftwood sign.  My oldest was home over the weekend and we made a quick trip to the Island and he hung my sign up for me!

This is our Island Home with the driftwood sign above the garage door.

Can you see the sign above the garage door? I didn’t realize how much I missed it above the door until we put it back on Saturday. It finishes off the look!  Notice that nice car in the driveway…Yep, not mine or anyone in my family for that matter.  Looks nice in front of the house though!

A Quick Follow Up on My Easy Driftwood Sign

Here’s a closer look at the sign.

Remember this is what it looked like before I repainted it.

and now this…

I will let you know how long it holds up to the weather!

Here’s one final look at one of the most peaceful places…ever!  Can you see why I love this place?

How to Make a Change Using Paint

September 25, 2016 By stylishrevamp 1 Comment

Happy Sunday!

Today I am sharing how to make a change with paint. This is a quick and inexpensive way to make a change that can either make a huge impact or a subtle change. I wanted a subtle change.

How to make a change using paint

In our foyer, we have two mismatched tables that flank the door. I have been looking for a while to replace them but I haven’t found anything that I just had to have.  The pieces that I did fall in love with were too big for the space. This is one of those items that I talked about in my Ultimate Guide to Thrift Shopping.

How to Make a Change with Paint

A few weeks ago, I finally decided that instead of buying more furniture I would just paint my existing tables. I normally love the mismatched look but these foyer tables needed a revamp.  I wanted a more cohesive look and I knew I could get the look I wanted with paint.

Revamping my furniture with CeCe Caldwell's Paint is a super easy way to quickly change the look of a piece.

I picked up a can of CeCe Caldwell’s paint, on clearance, at a local shop that is no longer going to be selling paint… so score one for me.  I wanted a shade of gray that was darker than my walls and this was the only can of gray they had.  Luckily for me, it works.

The CeCe Caldwell paint is similar to Annie Sloan chalk paint.  Although, it was a bit thicker than the Annie Sloan paint.  Other than that the application was the same. Every time I paint, the can reads one to two coats, that is never the case for me.  Both table needed three coats and if I am being completely honest they really could have used a 4th coat but I was done.  When I am finished, I am finished!

Again, this was a subtle change and all I really wanted was a more cohesive and updated look. My husband didn’t even notice the painted tables until I pointed it out to him.

Before and after using CeCe Caldwell's Paint

The entrance table before being painted with CeCe Caldwell's paint.

This is the second table in the entryway.  It is similar in style but painted black with a bit more detailing.

Updating the table with Cece Caldwell paint in Pittsburgh Gray.

I also added some gold rub and buff to add a bit more dimension to the detailing.  It also helps tie in all the gold that I have in my foyer.

Adding gold rub and buff to add dimension.

Once all the painting was complete and the gold rub and buff was dry, I had to seal the paint and add protection.  I like to use Americana Decor wax.  You can pick it up at Home Depot.  It is much easier for me to use.  I paint it on with a foam brush and let it dry.  Once it’s dry, I buff it with a lint free cloth.  Easy Peasy!

Creating Cohesion with Paint

Although the two pieces are a bit different,  I like how the paint ties them together without being too matchy matchy.  It doesn’t look like I went out and bought two pieces of identical furniture, yet they still go together.

Adding cohesion with paint

I am enjoying these small changes made with paint.  When you are looking for a change, get out a can of paint.

Until Next Time,

Designing with the IKEA Book Case

July 22, 2016 By stylishrevamp 2 Comments

Last year I shared my IKEA Billy Book Case hack, which you can read about here.

StylishRevamp's IKEA Billy Book Case Hack

I am so happy with the way this piece turned out.  So much so, that I would like to do a similar version of it in my sitting room off the master bedroom. At the moment, I have a small but deep armoire that holds my television set and two club chairs in my sitting room.  This is where I normally hang out when I want to watch my mindless reality tv shows that pretty much annoy the males in this household.  It is a cozy little spot but I would like to give it a revamp.  So my hubs said once I come up with a design, he will work on it.

IKEA Billy Bookcase

Designing with the IKEA Bookcase open up many decorating possibilities.

There are so many great IKEA Book Case Hacks out there, so I thought I would share a few here today that might work in my sitting room.

http://www.averystreetdesign.com/2015/06/diy-summer-school-ikea-hack-built-in.html

I love this design by AveryStreetDesign.com. You can click on the link for a complete tutorial. I really like the solid doors on the bottom with the glass front doors on the top. Fabulous! I would have to rework the top a bit to accommodate a small television.  I could leave a set of the glass door off in the center or leave the entire top shelves open.  Also, check out the lighting! I love this look from top to bottom!

Memorabledecor.com

I found this Billy Book Case hack on Memorabledecor.com. I like the mix of the open and closed shelving on this Ikea hack.  I also like how the spacing of the shelves are different on the center book-case.  It adds a different dimension to the entire unit.  I think this would work well in my sitting room.

Lastly, I am sharing a Billy Book Case Hack from Southern Revivals.

http://www.southernrevivals.com/2016/02/office-makeover-reveal-ikea-hack-built-billy-bookcases.html

Yet another favorite of mine! I like the mix of the large and smaller book cases and the large center opening. The options are limitless, that’s why I am a huge fan of all the book cases and shelves at IKEA.  You can easily customize them for a more personal taste.  I cannot wait to get started on this… I need to make a final decision and soon!

Until Next Time,

2016 Outdoor Home Tour

June 25, 2016 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I thought since we have had some great weather recently, I would share a quick outdoor tour of our home.  The Spring weather earlier this year has really helped my yard and plants. I will admit outdoor work is not really my thing but I have gotten into it a bit more this year.

Outdoor Home Tour 2016

I think my favorite part of our yard is all the little pathways.

Paver walkway to the front door (Paver walkway to the front door)

Landscaping the pool area

This one is a bit more difficult to see, but it is a flagstone walkway meandering through the pool area to the side of the house.  This is my favorite spot. I like that the path is surrounded by a stacked stone wall, Vinca, skip laurels, Japanese Maple Tree, and the yellow climbing roses.

FlagStone Pathway and outdoor Fireplace

Back Patio Area

(Paver walkway and patio leading to the back of the house)

Our back patio is enclosed with a stone wall and  has a step down area with an outdoor fireplace. It feels like an outdoor room. This photo is not recent but I love how the fireplace looks all decorated. At the moment, I have a crew outside replacing some damaged wood pieces on our deck and trim.  I will share an updated photo in a later post.

Decorating and outdoor fireplace with fresh clipping in a planter and a fresh cut wreath.

I remember many years ago my parents were here and we built a big fire in the fireplace. My mom was a bit panicked but laughing so hard because I built that big fire using junk that my husband had in the garage that should have been trashed many years beforehand. (Mainly it was scrap wood and boxes.)  Anyway, he never missed any of that stuff I cleaned out of the garage.  It will be interesting to see if he reads this post! Yikes!

My potted herb garden, it’s small but it works for me.

Concrete pots on the front porch

This is one of my concrete pots that I shared here on  Thrift Shop Thursday. I have two of them and they flank the front entrance on our porch.  I bought the plants at Kmart. $11 that’s it and they are doing great.  I saw the same thing at a local nursery for $36.

Landscaping around the pool and pergola

Our pergola..my husband came up with this idea.  Did we need it? No, but we love it! Even though it is completely open, it feels like a room out by the pool.  The plants are finally starting to fill in nicely.  Love, Love, love it!

View of Pergola from the back patio

This is the view of the pergola from the back of the house.

Yellow Climbing Roses on the pergola

Our yellow roses are finally starting to make their way up the pergola and down the fence line.  I am really liking the pops of yellow in our yard.

(poolside view)

I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into our outdoor living space.  It is always a work in progress but I finally feel like it is coming together.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of my WV readers, be safe!

The Best of Stylish Revamp 2015

January 2, 2016 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas Season.  I have been relaxing since we had our family Christmas dinner.   I have been catching up on my favorite blogs, watching some Fixer Upper repeats, movie watching and having game night. My husband always, always wins at scrabble.  We talked the Gman into playing with us.

I was originally going to take our Family Room tree down today but decided to wait until tomorrow.  The rest I will leave up until  The Epiphany which is the 12th day after Christmas.

Since I am not dismantling my Christmas Decor, I thought I would share  The Best of Stylish Revamp 2015.  Some of my favorite post did not make the list and some of the ones that did surprised me. However, this is the story that the numbers tell and according to my husband, the numbers don’t lie!  So here we go… At the top of the list is one of my favorites.

The IKEA Billy Book Case Hack

Ikea Billy Bookcases with a rolling library ladder

I absolutely love how this bookcase turned out.  I enjoy switching up the accessories on the shelves but this is the first styling! It is also my most pinned image as well.

2nd on the list is an older post.  It is my DIY DriftWood Christmas Tree.

DIY Driftwood Christmas Tree

This was another quick, easy and inexpensive project. You can see the full tutorial here.

3rd on the list is one of my favorite room revamps, My Home Office.

Creating a Home Office

The transformation of this room still amazes me every day.  Check out the before and after here.

4th on the list is another older post and I was surprised it was ranked so high on the list.  It is my DriftWood Whale.

DIY Driftwood Whale

This was another quick and easy DIY project and completely free! It looks adorable in our island home kitchen which you can see here.

The 5th most popular post on Stylish Revamp is another older post.  It is my very first Christmas Home Tour.

So many things have changed since this post and it is fun to look back at the differences.

I am looking forward to all that 2016 has in store for me and my family. We here at Stylish Revamp wish you a happy and healthy 2016.

Christmas in the City Tour

December 23, 2015 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I am continuing my Christmas Home Tour with Christmas in the City. This is our  Christmas in the City Village by Department 56 that we set up each year under our tree in the Sunroom. It is such a magical scene. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

We set it up in our Sunroom which is one of the most used rooms in our home.  It is a cozy comfortable room that you can see here.

Department 56 Christmas in the CIty

This is something my husband does for me and the Gman.  It is a lot of work setting this scene up under the tree.  He also adds his Lionel Train around the village.  Again, for me it is creating memories for my boys in the story telling about our childhood Christmases.  The train was a gift my husband’s father gave him and his brothers for Christmas when they were children.

The other special Christmas tradition we do is decorate our feather trees with our personalized snowmen ornaments.

Personalized Family Ornaments on our Feather Tree

It is a special way to remember each person in our family from the loved ones that are no longer with us and the new member that we have recently welcomed to the family.

We are getting very excited to celebrate Christmas.  Today is the last day of school for my youngest.  Tonight we are going to finish our baking and finally tackle the GingerBread House.

Tomorrow I will be sharing a few pictures of our outside decorations.

Until Next Time,

Home Office Christmas Tour

December 22, 2015 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

It is a wet and rainy day here…if only the temperature would drop and turn the rain into snow! Well, a girl can dream, can’t she?

I am doing another room tour this afternoon.  This is my Home Office Christmas Tour.  It may be wet and dreary outside but inside it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Home Office Christmas Tour 2015

I  had previously shared my Christopher Radko Shiny Brite Village in Thrift Shop Thursday last week but I don’t think I mentioned that it is set up in my home office.

Christopher Radko Shiny Brite Village.

I was excited to decorate my IKEA Billy Bookcase  for Christmas.

IKEA Billy Bookcase Decked out for Christmas

Once I got started, I realized I didn’t want to add a lot to it.  I think I have enjoyed it so much since we finished it that I didn’t want to add a lot of clutter with Christmas decorations. I can’t believe that I  just said that… “too much clutter from Christmas decorations” from the person that decorates 6 trees each year!

Anyway, I did add a few Christmas accents such as my DIY Believe sign, gold Christmas Trees and a Gold Santa.  I also added a wreath that was originally in my kitchen and some silver glitter trees.  Harry Frost, our Elf on the Shelf, has made several appearances in the Home Office this year.

DIY Gold Glitter Believe Sign

We use the same stockings each year and hang them from the fireplace mantel that is in my office.

Hanging the stocking by the chimney with care

Even though Santa leaves our gifts under the tree in our family room, we have always hung the stockings in the room that is now my office. I started this tradition when we first moved to this home and the boys were little.  The stocking are the last thing we open.  When the boys were little, they would sometimes forget about them and remember them later on in the day and it was another added little surprise. Even though they are older, we still hang them in this room.

Stockings hanging by the chimney waiting for Santa to fill them.

This year when I pulled the decorations out of storage, I decided to donate some of the decorations I no longer use.  I donated three of my older trees.  I ended up buying this $32 tree at Michaels.  It is a very slim pre-lit tree.  I wanted to add some extra decorative berries or branches to fill it out a bit more but the Gman liked it as is …hmmm maybe next year!

My $32 Michaels Tree

Three more days…I wish we still had three more weeks.  I love the weeks leading up to Christmas but each year they come and go much too quickly.

Tomorrow, I will be sharing our Christmas in the City Tour.

Until Next Time,

Dining Room Christmas Tour 2015

December 22, 2015 By stylishrevamp Leave a Comment

I cannot believe that Christmas will be here in 4 days.  Last year we went to Italy the day after Christmas and I kind of wish we were going back this year! It was forced time that the boys had to spend with us. Besides that, it was so darn gorgeous!  This year it will be more relaxed which I will definitely enjoy.  We will have family for dinner after Christmas, so today I decided to share my Dining Room Christmas Tour for 2015.

Dining Room Christmas Tour

I am keeping it simple in here this year as well.

Christmas Scented Pinecones scattered in a basket

I added Christmas Scented pine cones to a basket and finished it off with Santa and a wreath.  Easy but festive and it smells fabulous!

Christmas Scene on an Up Cycled Ladder

Vintage Skiing Santa

Vintage Metal Christmas Figurines

I have shared these pieces before but like I mentioned in an earlier post, I use the same decorations year after year.  Although, I do add a few new favorites here and there.  I found the vintage Christmas figurines at a consignment shop for next to nothing. I am always on the look out for more pieces like these.  This year I decided to add them to my up cycled teak ladder. So even though I am using the same pieces, I am mixing it up a bit.

The 12 days of Christmas Stamped Spoons

I have shared these Stamped Spoons before but I can’t help it…Love, Love, Love them!

12 days of Christmas Stamped Spoons

Aren’t they perfect?

Christmas Table Setting

Here’s a glimpse of my Christmas table setting.

So even though I kept it relatively simple in the Dining room it still feels festive! I hope you are almost ready for Santa to make his long journey!  I wish we would get some snow but I think it is supposed to be quite warm here but I am still dreaming of a white Christmas!

Until Next Time,
